Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
Look at this fancy setup right here.
What is that?
So fancy, right?
Yeah.
So professional.
So professional.
What are they?
You know how-
What?
What are they?
Oh yeah yeah yeah.
You know how we've always been struggling with our recording devices?
Yep.
How we first started with just an iPhone.
Yeah, just an iPhone.
And then upgraded into like the pin mic that I bought from China.
Yeah.
How much was that?
Jus-an-ma- ju-san- ju- no ju- ju-san-mae, you know?
What the- uh, just 1,300 yen.
1,300 yen.
Yeah, and I got a lot of, um, we got a lot of like, um, kuremu from that.
But, um, while we were struggling, uh, Tascam, which is an audio company.
Yeah, I have a Tascam recorder.
You do, right?
That thing, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Tascam reached out to us and like, "Hey, you guys are doing a podcast.
You guys want the audio, right?
Well, we got this- we got this thing for you guys.
Try it."
And then we have the chance to try these.
And like, review them.
Yeah.
And, um, this thing is made- well, first of all, it's called the Tascam Mixcast 4.
Oh, it's 4.
It's 4.
Yeah, it's not 3.
It's not 3.
Wow.
It's not 5, it's 4.
Oh, it's 4.
Yeah, it's 4.
I like 4.
You like 4?
By the way, yeah.
I like 7, by the way.
Okay.
Okay, so it's Mixcast 4.
And it's- it- you okay there, man?
Sorry.
It's made for podcasting.
Oh, really?
That was what I was actually really fascinated by.
Yeah.
That they have this mixer for podcasting.
Oh, is that only for podcast?
Well, it's not only, but it's made especially for podcasters.
Wow.
And what's really good is that it's got- first of all, it's very- it looks very easy.
Okay.
Right?
It's got-
Simple.
It's very simple.
You know how all the other mixers have like a-
Yeah.
Aida and like all that, whatever that is.
Gain thing.
Gain thing.
Boost output.
This is very- looking very simple.
The simple fader for this, right?
It goes up and down.
You can't hear my voice.
Now you can.
Yeah.
Kind of like that.
Yangchen, you always speak a little bit.
I speak- I guess I'm speaking very loud.
Yeah.
So I- what I can do is I can just lower this a little bit.
Yeah.
Another thing is that there is a talkback button.
You know what a talkback button is?
Yeah, like-
You do.
All right.
Okay.
Sorry.
No, I don't know.
What is that?
You don't know?
No.
Let me explain to you.
So talkback is a feature where if you click it-
They can't hear what I'm saying.
03:02
Wow.
You guys didn't hear that, right?
Because I- like the talkbacks.
I can talk to Yamachan, but you guys can't.
Oh, cool.
So it's like a- let's hurry up kind of.
Yeah.
You need a mic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You need a nobatsu.
Yeah.
So if you have like a director over there-
Yeah.
You can directly speak to us.
Exactly.
That's nice.
That's exactly- I didn't think of that, but yeah.
That's cool.
Several other things.
Go ahead.
But say that simple is really good.
Exactly.
Like if you know, once we use the huge mixer for professionals that can do everything,
you know, it's kind of really difficult for us to completely use that machine.
Exactly.
So there's so many things that we actually don't need.
Yeah, absolutely.
Only record those two, these two, you know, vocals.
Exactly.
It works perfectly, just like you said, with two vocals.
But actually, it is capable of doing a lot more.
Oh, really?
So it can go up to these wired microphones, right?
It can go up to four.
Oh, that's why mix gets four.
Yeah, I think so.
I think so.
I'm not sure, but maybe.
I didn't ask them.
Okay.
But other than that, you can connect Bluetooth.
You know what that means?
You can connect Bluetooth to your phone and I could play like a music here.
Oh, really?
And then it's going to go in the recording.
Or you can call somebody.
Oh, really?
Over like Line, Skype, Zoom, whatever.
And the audio is going to go in.
Oh, that's.
Wow.
Wireless.
That's nice.
It is nice.
That's nice.
Sorry, that's nice.
Yeah.
And you can also connect wired.
Oh, phone.
Also, you can connect your phone wired.
Wired.
And then.
My phone through Bluetooth.
Bluetooth, exactly.
And we could have a Kake-chan here.
And we can have Tsuji-san here, our manager.
Oh, that's nice.
Have a four-way conversation.
Plus two more.
Right?
Wow.
Whoever that's going to be.
Yeah.
But.
Oh, like, you know, Kake-chan and Tsuji-san can physically come, but call your dad.
Exactly.
And you can speak through this phone.
This that Bluetooth.
So.
Exactly.
I can call you.
You can call me.
Yeah.
You can call me.
Do this.
Through that.
Yeah.
And I can hear you through this.
And answer you through this.
Yeah.
That's brilliant.
I connect through the Bluetooth.
I think that's brilliant.
Your phone can be connected on, you know, wired.
06:00
So that we can speak through the phone and record at the same time.
I think that's brilliant, man.
What I can do is I can move this microphone so that it faces you.
Yeah.
So that it makes a loop, you know, it's like a disaster.
You know what the thing is?
There's this feature.
I have no idea what it means.
Like, this is a feature that it like automatically.
Not loops.
Oh, really?
It does that like when you're making a phone call, like it.
They say that it happens.
Yeah.
But.
This thing prevents it.
Oh, that's cool.
I can imagine that because when I, when you use the phone, I speak things.
And that speak sound will get into like this cable to that machine.
And also the phone itself is, you know, speaking in the same exactly same, you know, voice.
True.
So we can.
It loops.
Yeah.
Howling.
Yeah.
Oh, that's cool.
I would say another key aspect is that there's, you can actually also set gains.
You don't think that there's not gain.
Gain?
Yeah, gain.
Gains.
Yeah, it's digital.
If you click on it, it's a touch screen here.
If you click on one, that's the gain right there.
It's 30 right now.
And you can also have effects to your microphones.
You can.
This is mid.
This is deep.
This is bright.
Oh, so it's like a slicing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's like an equalizer made easy.
Wow.
Another one.
There's a compressor, soft, hard, soft, hard.
Wow.
It does it for you, man.
It does it for you.
That's cool.
Yeah.
It's it's amazing.
You can do like a little reverb.
It's only me, but I can do it to yours too.
If you set it up.
Yeah, like when you do like titling.
Exactly.
Shout out.
Exactly.
Everything through podcast.
Podcast.
Let's do it.
Yeah.
Finally, an actual.
Oh, yeah.
Let's do that.
Yeah, here we go.
Should I reverb the whole thing?
Or just just an ending?
The ending.
Okay.
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Oh, yeah.
That's nice.
Several more features here.
Oh, cool.
This buttons, these pretty buttons.
Okay.
These pressable buttons.
Yeah.
They are sound effects.
It's like MPC machine.
What's that?
09:03
What's that?
It's an alarm.
Okay.
That's for you.
What the it works so seamlessly and it's so fun.
What the?
Yeah, that's this which is for you.
And you can also this is preset.
But it seems that you can actually get an SD card and then set it.
Okay.
Yeah, it's actually I'm not using the SD card right now.
I'm connecting it to a iPhone and a Mac.
Sorry, iPad and then recording it.
But you can actually set an SD card and then hit record right here and stop right here.
You can also put marks like all my stamps.
I've never used it, though, but I've never used hand stamps.
So yeah, but you can go directly to the SD card and exactly exactly right.
That's nice.
Right.
So that was the hardware.
Right.
Yeah, I like this machine, especially it's really simple made for like beginners, you know?
Yeah.
So preset.
Exactly.
Simple fighters and simple buttons and easy to use and easy to understand everything.
You know, when I always go to that the recording place that we all usually do and I just I don't
know what's going on.
I just let you do the machines with this.
It arrived at my place and I was actually it just like an hour of like touching and everything.
I got it to work.
It was pretty easy for me.
Pretty simple, obvious.
Yeah.
So that was the hardware.
OK.
There's a software.
Really?
That you can download.
It's called the Task Cam podcast editor.
Wow.
It's made to work seamlessly with this device.
What I like about this is that first.
So line one, two, three, four and then Bluetooth and USB and then phone, it records on a different
line.
OK.
And with the press of a button.
It changes the volume for you.
So if line two tends to speak softly, line one tends to speak aggressively and there's
a volume gap throughout the whole thing.
What it does is it with a push of a button, it just levelize it for you.
So that they're all even.
And then when you export it, it normalizes it.
12:04
It does the leveling and then the normalizing one software, which I think is pretty convenient.
So there you go.
And it's also editable, I guess.
You can combine copy paste.
You can also undo.
Yeah.
Wow.
There's so many things that you can do on that software.
Yeah, there is.
There is.
Right.
And I was happy that it worked for iPad, too.
Yeah, true.
Because my PC is broken now.
Yeah, I'm using an iPad.
That's kind.
Yeah.
They made an iPad application.
Yeah, it is.
They are.
They are.
And it works on iPhone, too.
I don't know how it works, how well it works, though.
But yeah, they have an app for both devices.
So cool.
Yeah.
It's like, you know, when you record music, we use the, you know, it's called D-A-W.
It's like the soft like that.
And it inputs so many inputs and outputs, but it's like a similar one, but more simple.
And it got all the things that we need while we do this recording.
So like a GarageBand.
Oh, yeah.
The software GarageBand.
Yeah.
Not really a brand, but you know, made for podcasting.
Yeah, right.
Does GarageBand have like a leveler or like a normalizer in it?
You can change the volume.
And you got compressor.
I see.
You know, it's a little complicated.
You know, you have to adjust a little bit.
I've always had trouble like finding softwares or services that normalizes quickly.
And this does it with a click of a button.
So I was kind of blown away by the features there.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
So there you go.
Yeah.
That was bad timing right there.
Can I do the intro with this?
Of course.
Of course.
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
My name is Kevin.
I'm here with Yama-chan.
Oh, super cool.
I think there's more.
Not really.
I think so.
I think you can.
Oh, nope.
Nope.
Nope.
You can't go further.
15:00
I think there's like a...
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Oh, shit.
It reverbs with this button.
Fuck.
It's too late.
It's too late.
Oh, it's fun using this button.
Yeah.
Try something, man.
Yeah.
Can you start intro, please?
Sure.
Welcome to...
My name has to be censored.
And it's such a common name, man.
Kevin's such a common name.
I'm sorry.
It's such a common name.
Oh, it's fun.
Oh, it's really, yeah, it's really good.
Yeah.
And by the way, the mic here is, uh, is also from TASCAM.
It's, uh, TM70.
TM70.
TM70.
Okay.
It's 70, huh?
Yeah.
52.
Nope.
70.
It's not 71.
Cool.
70.
And this, this one too?
Yeah, that's an arm.
Yeah.
Cool.
I don't know what it's called, but it's an arm.
Oh, wait.
A TM-AM2.
Yep.
TM-AM2.
Okay.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
That's cool.
Yeah.
And microphone is really good.
Yeah.
I think it's really clear.
Yeah, it is, it is, it is.
It's really easy to work with.
Yeah, and your headphone too.
Right, this monitoring headphone is also from TASCAM.
That's TH6.
Yeah.
Of course.
This is mine.
Okay.
Yeah.
This is, this is Kevin's original earphones.
Okay.
Six.
Seven.
Okay, seven.
Seven.
And you can plug this too.
Oh, yeah.
Usually the monitor headphones is always like with this jack right here.
Yamachan's is using this one, so it works.
You can use this as a monitor too, like in the front right here.
Yeah.
All right.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, just a quick introduction to the devices here.
Yeah, I have the microphone.
Yeah.
Actually.
It is, it's pretty good, right?
It's pretty good, easy to use.
Yeah, it's clear.
Quality microphone.
Yeah.
Hmm.
All right.
So there it was.
Toscam Mixcast 4.
Great.
And thank you Toscam for introducing this to us.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So happy and, you know, it makes us really, you know, much easier to record these podcasts.
18:01
Exactly.
Happy podcast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Thank you for listening guys.
Thank you.
Bye bye.
