Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
Hey guys!
It's starting to rain.
It's not raining.
Oh, is it raining now?
Yeah.
Like heavily?
Not heavy, heavy.
Are people using their umbrellas?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
Man, I hate, I hate, I hate that I have to use an umbrella.
Yeah.
I think I've told you this before.
I'm pissed at the fact that the umbrella hasn't evolved.
Yeah.
Ever since time.
Yeah.
Like you can see Edo-Jidai, they have an umbrella, like closed, simulated.
Yeah.
Exact same fucking design!
Yeah.
How has that not evolved?
How?
Alright.
Yeah.
I'm gonna calm myself.
Yeah.
I'm not gonna talk about this.
So what do you think the best, you know, ideal umbrella would be?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Like if you, if you like it's like that combined with kind of belt or like shoulder, little
belt back and you put it on your body, it will be like, yeah.
So that you can use your both hands.
That's right.
I feel like that's one of the, um, wait, I forgot how to say Genji stick in English.
Um, realistic, uh, drag, wait, there was a word for it.
I forgot.
Oh God, I keep forgetting words.
Uh, wait, feasible, feasible.
Yeah.
That I think, I feel like that's one of the feasible ideas, you know, to, to combine it
with a backpack.
Yeah.
Right.
That, yeah, yeah.
That's, I like that.
I like that.
I like that.
Yeah.
But there's gotta be, there's gotta be out products out there.
And the society has to move on too.
Like you can't look like an idiot.
No one wants to look like an idiot, right?
With their, with their backpack umbrellas.
No one wants to look weird out there in the streets.
Okay.
So the society has to move on as well.
We have to accept it.
Right?
Yeah.
Sure.
Yeah.
Why don't you invite those, one of those, your product?
Ah, that's a, yeah, that's a good idea.
Yeah.
But you know, I, yeah, I don't have, I'm not confident.
Are you not?
I'm confident of what?
I'm not confident of changing the society to where it's a norm now to use those kinds
of umbrellas.
Well, you can make it.
True.
I can try.
Yeah.
03:00
I can try.
Now you have so many followers, so many people watching you.
I don't think that, you know, having followers is going to help change society.
Really?
I feel like the idea itself has to be great.
Okay.
You know?
Okay.
And you don't think the idea is enough?
I don't think the idea is not enough.
Okay.
I mean, I think having followers and having an audience helps, helps, you know, helps
accelerate the process of normalizing it.
But I don't think eventually it'll end up with the same results.
Okay.
Yeah.
So the product itself is important.
Yes.
Okay.
And the backpack umbrella is not the one for you?
Not yet.
Yeah.
Not yet.
Well, maybe in the future.
I don't know.
Right?
Maybe a cap umbrella?
Cap umbrella.
I don't know.
Cap umbrella.
Cap umbrella, huh?
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think you'd look like an idiot.
Really?
Like some Doraemon character.
Well, yeah.
Like a tachycopter or something like that.
Yeah, but it's bigger than the tachycopter because it's so small.
I know.
Oh, oh.
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
He didn't mean it.
Yeah, sorry.
Didn't mean it.
Sorry.
This is an accident.
Okay.
Well, so...
Wait, what were we talking about?
Umbrellas.
New umbrellas.
Umbrellas, right?
Yeah.
We didn't get into any messages or anything like that, did we?
No.
Oh, yeah.
All right, all right.
Yeah.
Orson, do you want to continue speaking about umbrellas?
No, I think I'm good.
Yeah, I think I'm good.
Okay.
Yeah.
What about glasses umbrella?
Can you pick it up?
Well, see, the thing about glasses umbrella, right, is this thing's kind of weak.
Like it moves so easily.
Yeah.
So...
If an umbrella is connected to the glasses, it's going to just blow away, right?
You know how sometimes there's like windy, like windy rain and everything, right?
You have to like really hold that umbrella.
Your glasses are going to be like...
It's not going to work.
Oh, sad.
That's sad.
Yeah.
I thought that works.
Nope.
No.
Nope.
It's not going to work.
The cap one is the best.
Well, if you're going to use a cap, you're going to need like a little belt to secure
the cap, right?
Well, that's cute.
Really, Yamachan?
You think it's cute?
You're not used to see those.
Yeah.
But once you get used to see, that's fine.
That's usual.
I don't think that's...
I don't think that a helmet...
Really?
06:00
A helmet/umbrella is going to be accepted, you know, in society.
Well, at least in Japan, I don't think it's going to be a thing.
Really?
Yeah.
I think people would think it's the sai.
Well, you know, they don't catch the era, the mood.
New invention, you know, new invention is always need sometimes to people.
On that note, what do you think about audio?
What do you think about like audio commands?
Like Siri or like Google, OK Google or something like that.
Do you use it in your house?
At your house?
Like, "Hey Siri, set the alarm for five to like forever."
Do you not use it?
Okay, I use it.
And it's very convenient.
And I think that people would use it, okay, over time.
But my question is, do you think they'll use it?
People start using it outside, like where everybody else is there, can hear things.
Would you do it in front of somebody else?
Like, you're a stranger, right?
And I'm right here, like trying to like do things on my iPhone.
Like, "Hey Siri, blah blah blah blah blah.
Remind me to call my dad at seven."
Do you think people will start doing that in public?
Okay, God.
Jesus Christ.
Of course, you say, "I remind her."
Wow, okay.
Look, "Blah blah blah blah blah, call my dad."
"Blah blah blah blah blah, call my dad."
That's how Siri noticed, okay.
So he works promptly.
He works perfectly.
He works promptly, yes, yes he does.
You know, that's a...
It could be partially, but mainly now.
Because, you know, set a timer for 10 minutes, that's, you know, fine.
You can say it out loud in the public space.
But, you know, like something like, reminder for the calling to my girlfriend sometimes,
or like reminder of, you know, those kind of personal things you can shout out loud in the public city.
It's public.
I'm sorry, it's private.
Yeah, everyone can hear that.
So, I don't think that that will be like, you know, spread.
Like everybody do that on the street.
But partially it could be like, "Can you show me the way to some, like station, things?"
Can be.
Can you, okay, so can you do that in Shibuya, in the middle of Shibuya where everybody's like here?
Like set a timer?
No, no, like let's say the most crowded district of Shibuya, right?
09:01
Sentagaya or something like that.
In the middle of the street, can you talk to your phone and say, "Show me the way to the Apple Store."
Will you be embarrassed by that or no?
A little bit.
Me too.
Yeah.
I can't do it yet.
Yeah.
But I guess they understand you.
Like they can understand at least what he is doing right now.
So, it's kind of weird, but people will understand you.
So, think about that.
It's not that embarrassing.
Yeah.
But I won't.
Yeah.
But I won't.
Me too.
Several years ago, when earbuds just came out, people were embarrassed of talking on the phone using earbuds in public
because other people would think that that guy is just talking by himself to no one.
Yeah.
But now, people do it all the time.
People just assume that, "Oh, he's made some earbuds."
I get used to that?
I got used to it.
Oh.
Have you? Not?
No, still not.
You still think that people are just talking to nobody?
What?
I always would be like, "What?"
And, "Ah, okay."
Oh, he's on his earphones.
He's on a phone.
Okay, okay, okay.
But it always gets me like...
Oh, really?
Gets me like...
Like I have to think that someone is talking to me or like...
It looks still not, you know, still weird to me.
Okay. All right.
Okay.
Yeah.
And also, that thing about the phone problem is you...
Everything can be heard by the close public.
True. That's true.
You know, phone is kind of very personal thing.
You can have conversation with somebody important or like business things.
So, to me, it's...
Why would you want to do it in public?
Yeah. They can hear that.
Yeah.
But, you know, people talking like this in public all the time, right?
Oh, that's true.
But people tend to be loud, you know?
Yeah.
Like...
That's true. That's true.
True.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
