「さくら味」に根拠は何?

改めて桜もち食べてみるか

00:00
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hello!
Hello!
You know, it's rainy today. It's actually kind of rare.
Actually it is.
That it rains on a podcasting day for us.
It's been a while that I see like this kind of rain.
It's kind of heavy.
Yeah.
It was windy.
It was.
Yeah.
Heavy rain.
Did you, um, I saw a video of, you know how it's been a little bit windy recently?
I saw a video on TikTok of like the Meguro River.
You know how it's famous for the Ohonami, right?
And on a very windy day, on a very like when the cherry blossoms are like at maximum bloom,
it was so windy that like it rained heavily with the petals.
Wow.
Yeah, petals of heavy rain.
And it was like, you think it's beautiful, right?
Yeah.
But it's actually really like, like, "soredokoro janai" kind of caption, right?
"ohonami dokoro janai" caption.
It was like severe, severe petal rain.
And that was interesting.
It was funny.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I can imagine that.
Yeah.
Oh, it's sad.
What?
Because I will miss the, you know, Sakura flowers.
It's all gone.
Yeah, true.
Right.
A little sad.
Let me, let me pull up the video if I can.
Nope.
No?
Nope.
I don't, I don't see it.
Okay, I'll give up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Have you done ohonami this, this season yet?
Yeah, I accidentally went to the Meguro.
It was Nakameguro.
You told me.
Yeah, I told you before, but I, you know, we had a place to go.
It was a little kind of cafe bar.
Yeah.
That was our goal.
Me and my two friends, we went there and didn't know that they were famous for the Sakura.
We know that obviously, but didn't know that it's that, you know, I forgot.
And just soon after I arrived at the station, there were so many like policemen, you know,
guard guys, you know, like, "Kochira, tsugo kinshi desu."
And I was like, wow, so many people here.
Yeah.
So, what, maybe there's some kind of crime happened here.
But yeah.
Like Shibuya Halloween.
Yeah, yeah.
The police come out.
Yeah.
But it was beautiful.
It was actually my first time to, you know, visiting, visit there in this season Meguro River.
03:07
It was really beautiful to me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's good.
I have a question about Sakura flavor.
What?
Flavor?
You know how there's a lot of drinks and food with Sakura flavor?
That, I don't, how does one know the flavor of Sakura?
Right?
Have you ever eaten Sakura?
No.
No?
Have you?
No.
Because like, you know sakuramochi?
Yeah.
With the, that's with the Sakura, you know, leaves.
Yeah.
Oh wait, so it's made out of actual Sakura leaves, like petals?
Yeah, like, not petals but leaves.
You know, there's a sakuramochi and it's wrapped by the, you know.
Green leaves?
Yeah.
That's Sakura leaves.
Green leaves.
Which part of Sakura tree is that?
It's a leaf.
They got leaves?
Of course.
Why not?
Wait, I thought it only blooms the pink ones.
That's flowers.
Okay, you know what, I don't, I just, I'm, maybe I'm just not understanding the concept of flowers.
Concept of flowers.
Okay, so there's leaves.
No, because like, imagine like, you know, for example like, you know, tanpopo?
Yeah.
You have flowers on the top and you got leaves underneath the, you know, like.
Just above the ground.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's the same concept.
I understand, but those are like flowers, right?
We're talking about Sakura trees, right?
Yeah, but those are the same.
They got leaves on them?
On them branches?
Yeah.
Really dude?
Have you ever heard about, like, hazakura?
No?
No.
Okay.
Okay.
So, um, well maybe you can see it.
You go to the sakura trees and see carefully.
Look, I've seen sakura trees.
Okay.
Up close.
Okay.
Many times.
Yeah.
Never seen a leaf.
Oh really?
Never seen a leaf.
Like a green leaf, right?
Yeah.
I'm sorry, but I've never seen one.
Always green leaves there.
Really?
Yeah, but you know, after the, you know, sakura flowers, they're gone and then leaves comes.
Oh, got it.
So it's, so during like the, the petal season.
Yeah.
Like it's not there.
When you do some, those kind of hanami or hanami, you know, only flowers.
So not leaves.
Okay.
I got it.
Got it.
Yeah.
All right.
Oh yeah.
I think I, hmm.
I think I'm starting to remember.
Yeah.
The off season of sakura.
It is, it looked, it does look like a, like a, like a typical, typical tree.
Yeah.
Like usual trees.
Yeah.
Yeah.
06:00
So that tastes like.
Yeah.
You've ever, you've tasted that before?
Yeah.
Like sakura mochi.
I thought you was a professional.
Those, you know.
Yeah.
I know, but those, the, the leaves that are wrapped around the sakura mochi, those are
like a little moist and like, like edible and like.
Yeah.
They're easy to eat, right?
They're, I feel like they're like, they went through several process.
Of course.
So that humans can eat.
Yeah.
But you got taste with it still.
That's true.
Yeah.
So that's what, so that's where the sakura taste comes from.
Yeah.
Like if you taste the leaves, that's what the sakura flavor is.
Yeah.
Like for example, like the sakura frappuccinos.
Hmm.
Like it's got its own sakura flavor, right?
I understand.
I can imagine.
I've tasted it before.
So I remember what sakura flavor, the cliche marketed sakura flavor tastes like.
Okay.
But like, I never knew what like the real sakura flavor, like where it actually comes
from, the flavor.
So now I know that it's not the petals as the leaves.
I guess.
Well, I guess that's the same tree.
So even if you, yeah, taste the, you know, those flowers itself, I guess there's, you
know, kind of same kind of taste.
Okay.
But I'm not sure.
And also one other problem is I've never eaten those kind of sakura-aji sweet frappuccino
things.
So I'm not sure if it's quite similar or not.
You've never had like nothing of a dessert, something?
Except sakura mochi itself.
Oh, okay.
Ice cream, chocolate, like chiffon cake, nothing like that.
Okay.
Yeah.
But yeah, maybe you can try the sakura mochi and leaves itself so that you can tell.
I never knew that the leaf was sakura leaves.
Yeah.
Don't the mochi itself have like a sakura flavor in it?
If it's like traditionally made, I guess it's somehow blended into it.
Yeah, I guess so, but I'm not sure.
But when I was an elementary school student, we had a kateikan no jugyou and cooked sakura
mocho together.
And when I did that, we had nothing sakura, but just you know, just a plain mochi coloring
little things.
Okay, so just artificial coloring.
Yeah.
Okay, got it.
So I'm not sure.
But I'm not sure.
Okay.
All right.
Well, thanks for listening guys.
Thank you.
