Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Alright, first time recording at our studio.
This is officially now our studio.
Brand new space, yeah.
And now we open all the, you know, curtains.
It's always closed right during YouTube, right?
It's always closed, but now it's opened.
Yeah, right.
You know, if I can share the view with everybody, you know, that would be great.
But, you know, unfortunately we can't, right?
Yeah.
You like this view, right?
I like the view.
The window is really large and yeah.
Right, the building is all there and it's all...
It's like Tokyo.
Tokyo looking.
Yeah, I like that.
I like that.
Yeah, great.
Yeah.
Right.
It's suddenly cloudy today, but...
I thought it was going to be really hot today.
That's what I heard on the news.
But it's, yeah, it turns out not that hot.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Maybe almost rainy, you know?
Yeah.
Right?
The clouds pretty thick and everything.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Alright.
But, but, looking still good.
Looking still good?
From the window, you know.
From the window.
All the views.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Even if it's cloudy.
Yeah, that's true.
Right.
Yeah, it's pretty cool.
Yeah.
So, what have you been up to lately?
It's good, by the way.
Oh, yeah.
You're eating lunch?
Yeah.
It's by Natural Dawson.
Kokusan Salad Chicken Stick with Rib and Cheese.
Yeah.
It's good.
It's good.
And that's not sponsored, right?
Of course not.
At the same time.
It's just good.
Yeah.
I remember you telling me about the tofu bar.
Mm-hmm.
I...
Oh!
Oh!
Oh, let's get that tissue.
Yeah, tissue.
Yeah, thanks.
There you go.
Yep.
Thank you.
Is your clothes okay?
Oh, it's all over your clothes.
Thank you.
Kitchen paper?
I think you should get a kitchen paper.
Yeah.
Yep.
There you go.
Thank you.
Get that kitchen paper.
Thank you.
Alright.
Do you say kitchen paper?
I don't know how to say this.
Is that English word?
Yeah, I think it's Japanese.
Okay.
Kitchen paper.
It sounds Japanese English.
It does, it does.
Oh.
Oh.
Are those like good jeans or something?
Mm.
Oh.
Well, that sucks.
What a bummer.
Always happens to me.
Oh, yeah?
You're kind of used to it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, tell me about the tofu bar.
Yeah, the tofu bar.
I didn't know what you were talking about at first.
03:01
It's on your t-shirt too.
Yeah.
Oh, damn.
What did I talk?
I was like, oh, about tofu bar.
Oh, yeah.
Do you want me to, do you want to pull this, pull this way?
No, that's okay.
It's fine.
It's fine.
It doesn't stab you in the back?
Yeah.
You good?
Yeah.
Okay, that's good.
Yeah.
Yeah, you told me that there's a tofu bar that you want to buy.
And like I was going to the convenience store, I was like, do you want to buy something Yamachan?
Oh.
I want that tofu bar and I know what you're talking about.
Eventually, you wouldn't be able to buy it.
I found that.
I saw that on Family Mart, I think.
I'm sorry, I forgot.
But is it good?
I didn't, I didn't buy it.
You should try.
I was kind of wondering what it was.
It's just tofu.
Is it like, it tastes like tofu?
No, I mean, there's just some taste.
One is like plain.
Okay.
But it's not, it's like salty.
Salty.
A bit soy saucy.
Uh huh.
It's not something like hiyayako.
Okay.
Or like, or like you're literally eating just tofu itself.
It's different from that.
It's good.
Okay.
And also you have something like, like, I forgot, I forgot what.
Like, fuziru and olive.
Uh huh.
Or like, oh yeah.
One that I like the most is like hijiki and edamame beans in it.
I love that.
Okay.
So it's like, do you know ganmodoki?
Uh huh.
Okay.
It's like a, it's like a, it's not tofu, you know?
Okay.
It's a dish kind of.
Okay.
It's made up.
I see.
Yeah.
It's closer to whatever you said.
Yeah.
What, gan dofu?
Ganmodoki.
Ganmodoki?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's closer to that than tofu.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
And tastes so good.
You know, contains and so almost zero oil things.
Uh huh.
Uh huh.
So that's good.
You okay there?
Yeah.
It's rubbing your thigh.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Still wet.
Yeah.
You want me to get like a hand towel or something like that?
No, no, no.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah.
Good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You should try that.
The tofu bar.
Yeah.
It's good.
Yeah, I'll taste it and see if it's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Try the hijiki and the mame one.
Is that the one you most recommend?
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
I'll see how that tastes like.
06:02
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's the only one thing I always buy when I go, when I visit those convenience stores.
Isn't it pretty recent?
You know, that product.
I think so.
It's like one year, two years.
Oh, but it's been there for a year or two.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, I didn't realize that.
Oh, it's not something like popping up, you know.
Within like a month or two or something.
No, no, no.
That's what I thought.
No.
Okay.
Yeah.
Let me see.
It's like a salad chicken thing, you know.
Right, right, right.
Always in the salad chicken, you know, area.
Right.
Yes, it is.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, and coffee.
It's two things that I always buy at a convenience store.
The tofu bar and the coffee.
And something like salad.
Yeah.
Salad, you know.
Salad, buta shabu.
Is that a dish?
Kind of, yeah.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Is that a dish?
Kind of, yeah.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Salad, buta shabu.
Is that a dish that's already done and there for you?
Yeah.
You can find it everywhere.
Oh.
Cool.
Thank you.
I'm not familiar with that cup of coffee.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's, I guess, uh...
It's all decorative.
Yeah, it's...
And flowery.
Lawson.
Machi, machi cafe.
Yeah, Lawson.
I like Lawson's cup.
They're sometimes cute like this.
Mm-hmm.
Like ice cafe with, you know, little penguins.
Really?
Blue and shirokuma, like, sitting.
Uh-huh.
Yeah, they are good at those, you know, designing and things.
I remember you saying that you love the flavor of coffee, that 7-Eleven the most.
Yes.
And latte.
Latte.
Latte is 7-Eleven.
Yeah.
That was like three years ago.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I just, I, you know, tasted that, the best 7-Eleven.
You know, I remember there were 7-Eleven close to the college, our college, remember?
Yes, yes.
And I went to the college to learn sewing.
Right, right.
You were doing that.
I remember that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And yeah, that was the moment I found that.
I guess that convenience store, that 7-Eleven was the delicious one, I guess.
Oh, really?
So, it changed, it depends.
I don't know.
I don't know.
But I can imagine that, like, you know, amount of freshness.
Yeah, it was different.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
What I've always thought that, like, the thing about, you know, I used to work at Starbucks.
Yeah.
And, um, with a pretty big coffee shop.
09:02
Yeah, of course.
And coffee is known for its, coffee, you know, it's delicate, right?
Yeah.
The freshness matters, right?
Yeah.
But like, the thing I, you're still kidding.
No, it's like a...
The fresh new drip there?
Yeah.
Oh, it was on the table.
Yeah.
Didn't, didn't know that.
Sorry.
Okay.
Yep.
I guess that's it.
Yeah, okay.
Thanks.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay, right.
I know a friend that, um, that loves coffee.
Yeah.
And you know him more than I do, probably.
Um, uh, the guy with the glasses, the right.
Okay.
Um, he, he said that Starbucks coffee, he thought wasn't that fresh.
Mm-hmm.
Um, I thought about it once and I kind of thought that, okay, maybe it's true.
Yeah.
Because if you look at the Starbucks espresso machine, there's this, uh, there's a little
giant container that you can pour your coffee beans onto.
And then if you, and it's on, it's fully automatic, the espresso machine, right?
If you push a button, the, um, it's going to grind it for you and then it's going to
boom.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And the lid of that container where that espresso bean is, is contained, is stored.
It's not fully like sealed.
Oh, so it's opened.
It's not completely open, but it's just, it's just a lid that just, that just sits there.
It's not, there's, there is no like twist and fully secure or anything.
It's just, it's just boom, just place it on top and that's it.
So it's not completely like, you know, air resistant or anything.
It's not airtight.
Um, so I thought, okay, maybe this environment will, you know, get the beans to be a little
bit "kansou" or like "sankasaseru" I thought.
But that's the reality of Starbucks I thought.
Yeah.
Oh, true.
Yeah.
See, that's the same thing to convenience stores.
You know, you can see the huge beans, you know, storage on top, you know, and we never
know when they put the beans in it.
Exactly.
Yeah.
So it's not that fresh.
Yeah.
I mean, if you compare to those very finest quality coffees, but still, I think I'm finding,
you know, this convenience stores coffees, delicious, pretty good.
Starbucks are good.
So yeah, it's okay.
I love those actually.
But that's true if you compare to those, you know, the finest, you know, and see, there's
a, um, if you go to like the local chain coffee stores and buy some beans, you can find some
12:05
beans like...
Like a little hole.
Yeah.
Round hole.
Yeah.
In the bean bags.
Like sometimes you can find some beans, which is some like being kind of attacked, like
being destroyed.
It's like sometimes cut into half.
Oh, okay.
Like kind of broken beans.
Because of logistics.
Yeah.
Okay.
So in those finest coffee roasteries, they hand pick every beans.
Oh my God.
So there's no damage.
Yeah.
And all the beans are perfectly like round like this.
Wow.
Yeah.
Wow.
And they say that's better.
I'm sure that has to be better.
For their taste.
Um, yeah.
But I'm not, I'm not sure that.
You're not there yet.
Not yet.
Yeah.
I'm there good.
And this is good.
Yeah.
I can kind of understand the differences, but still both are good to me.
Yeah.
Alrighty.
Uh, hope you had a great week.
Yeah.
You too.
Thank you.
Hope everyone had a great week.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do you have some.
Yeah.
I'm trying to, I'm trying to.
Oh yeah.
Wrapping up.
Yeah.
I'm wrapping up.
I didn't.
I didn't want to make it like a, like a first time podcast.
Me too.
It's like a fresh new episode.
We were like talking about convenience store and yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I like that coffee by the way.
I've never seen that.
Yeah.
It was odd.
Weird episode.
Yeah.
Maybe it's a brandy.
You know?
Yeah.
The setups.
Yeah.
Like we're not really settled yet.
Yeah.
We're like, I'm just gonna drink coffee.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like all over the place and everything.
I'm trying to check the volume and everything and stall.
Sure.
Okay.
But thanks for listening guys.
Thank you.
Bye bye.
