Welcome to Devin's Thing is Room Podcast! Hello! What was that word? What? What was that word?
Procrast- oh shit. Oh! Procrastinating. Right. Procrastinate. Procrastinate. Okay. Procrastinate.
Yeah. Procrastinate. Procrast- Procrastinate. Yes, yes, yes. There you go, okay. Procrastinate. Yes.
But this is difficult. Is it difficult? Yeah, like proc- procra- procrastinate. Procrastinate.
Procrastinate. Yeah. You'll get used to it. Yeah, yeah. Procrastinate. Okay. All right. Okay. So,
this is number four. Okay. From Mayumi-san. Oh, thank you. Okay, this is the last question. Okay.
So, "I love foreign dramas and I watch them a lot, but I think American dramas have a lot of
party scenes. Especially high school students. Do they really have those kinds of parties in real life?"
"Also, in dramas, there are a lot of relationships where friends break up or date close friends,
but is that common in America?"
Thank you, Mayumi-san. Thank you, Mayumi-san. I- I don't know. Okay.
I've only been in the U.S. high school for half a year. Yeah. And I didn't do much of a romance
during middle school. Okay. So, I'm not sure. But, you know, I- I think the- the- the movies and the
dramas that's being shown, you know, that what she's talking about, having many parties, that's
like exaggerated a little bit. Okay. There isn't that much of a party. Okay. There isn't, you know,
it's not like we have parties every weekend, something like that. Maybe university. Okay.
Maybe university, but not middle school or high school. Okay. It's not that- at least in my
country. City. It didn't happen. Okay. Because my school wasn't that "ikeike." Oh, okay. It wasn't
"inaka," right? It was a rural city. So, everybody drove cars and like, you know, most people,
most freshmen high schoolers, I mean, everybody, no one can drink alcohol, right? Okay. So, like,
no, that's not gonna happen. Okay. And, um- No, like New York City. No, no. Private high school.
No, not like that. Gorgeous. Fancy. Maybe they have a different culture. They probably do. But,
I don't know about that. But, um, at least in my place, nothing happened. And in my middle school,
not many people went out with each other. Okay. We didn't have any couples in school. Oh, really?
No, we didn't. Okay. Or maybe I just didn't. But, it wasn't like a huge, huge community. But,
like, if somebody had dated, I think I would have heard it. But, yeah, but it didn't really-
How many were you in middle school? Okay. Um, how many classes are there? Okay, so,
03:05
each class, I think, let me, I think there's like 25 people in each class. 25 to- It's a little
smaller than- 25 to 30. But, okay, okay. Uh, that's one class. And there's one, two-
Wait, hold on. Yeah.
Or two or three classes. Two or three classes. Okay. So, it's not that-
It's very small. Is that very small for you? Yeah. Okay. It's smaller than the average number.
Yeah, I think so. It's a, I mean, it's a private school, so that's small. Okay. And
compared to like the public schools, you gotta fuck to them students in public schools. So, yeah.
Okay. Because in Japan, it's usual that we have only two classes with 30 students. Oh, really?
It's not that small. Well, yeah. Okay, so it's easier for you guys. Okay, okay. Right. All right,
so, well, anyways, the answer is you don't know about this question. Yeah, I don't know.
Okay. Well, I went to France when I was a high school student, right? So, it's a little different
from- maybe because it's different from the United States. But, you know, at least it was high school.
Oh, yeah. So, you know, we were a little grown up. Right, yeah, yeah, yeah. And actually, we had
parties so many times. Really? But not every weekend, though. But like, at least two or three
in a month. Yeah, we kind of went on a kind of club. We drink, I mean, not, you know, juice. Not
underage drinking, right? Soft drinks, of course. Like coffees or soft drinks. Yeah, of course.
Of course. Yeah, of course. And, you know, dance to the music and, you know, just club things.
That happens like almost every weekend. Wow. But, you know, there's one, you know,
I went to the countryside of France, so there was only one club, a huge modern club. So,
everybody went there. Oh, okay. And so, every weekend, if I go there, someone is there and
meet together. Wow. That was that place. Did you enjoy that? Yeah. You did? I mean, I
know. Not that much, actually. It was too loud to me. But, you know, it was fun having conversation
06:07
and, you know, meeting new people. But not everybody. Not everybody, of course. Of course.
Right, of course. Other parties held. Very good. So, you don't think that the dramas and the movies
are over exaggerated? Well, not that much. Really? Yeah. But, you know, family, like home parties,
you know, I see so many home parties in those dramas. Yeah. That's something I didn't see in
France. So, maybe the culture is a little bit different. If you ask me, I would answer it as,
you know how the Japanese dramas, like the Gakuen dramas, those cultures are not real.
Like the Ikemen comes in and the girls go, "Yeah!" And then, like, they would play around in the
school. They go to the rooftop and hang out at the rooftop. That's too like, "iketeru." That doesn't
happen in Japan, does it? Right. It's like that. Yeah, that's the same thing. It's true. Yeah,
it's just portraying a beautiful image that everybody in Japan wants to do. So, it's not real.
Yeah. And also, those Japanese dramas are based, like so many times, based on the mangas. So,
that's a little untrue, romantic. Yeah, too romantic. Yeah. It is. Yeah. I've never been
to the rooftop of the high school. Yeah, me neither. Me neither. I think the majority of
people have never been to their own high school's rooftop, right? And had lunch or something. Yeah.
I see that the fireworks together. Yeah, that's never gonna happen. That is never gonna happen.
I feel like we couldn't enter inside the building at night. Right. What kind of school would be so,
like, stupid to keep their doors for their rooftop open? Yeah. Right? And anyone can come in. Anyone
can come in, right? Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Okay. Do you want to do that? What? Like if parties?
If like the Gakuen dramas were like, do you want to be in that world?
Wow, yeah. Yeah. Gakuen drama. Actually, I don't see those typical Gakuen drama that much, actually.
09:04
Okay. But I like something like Seishun drama things. Not like romance things. Like, like, like
rookies. Yeah, rookies. Like, bukatsu things. You know. Water boys. Those things. Yeah. I love that
thing. So, I really want to, yeah. You think those are true? You think those are like, you know,
possible in reality? Like, let's take, um, yeah. Water boys, for example. How? That wasn't that
based on the real story, no? Oh, really? No. I'm not sure. But I think that can be true.
I'm not talking about the story. The storyline could be based on the
reality. But I'm talking about like the cliche scenes that you see on these like Seishun Gakuen
dramas. For example? Okay, like Kawara. Like, yeah. Running, running towards the train that
your beloved guy is on. Yeah. And just like, yeah. Running for your life, you know, because
he's leaving and like, and all your homies gather together and run, run towards the train.
Just be like, arigatou na! Kind of like that. You think that's real? You think those can,
it's possible. Yeah. But you think it's happening? Well, it's possible. It's possible, right? Yeah.
It's doable. But yeah. But I know there's some students, high school students who are sitting
riverside. Oh yeah? And do those things. Really? You know, bicycle and running or... No! You know,
those things. So, so I personally didn't experience that. But uh, can be happen. It could
happen. Yeah. It's possible. Yeah. Right. I've never seen them anyways. Like, if it happens,
like I've never seen anyone do those things. Ah, that's little, you know, have to be, try that
things. Oh yeah. And knowing this is cliche things. Yeah. And we are doing this right now.
Right. Which is Seishun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know. Like, have you ever seen a couple?
Like a, like a guy, like one would stand behind, one would stand on the train. Okay. One would stand
on the platform and the doors would close and then the train would start leaving and the guy or
the girl on the platform starts running because they don't want to like be apart. Have you ever
seen that scene? That's true. No, right? Yeah. Yeah. I would feel a little bit embarrassed if I see that.
Like a little bit like if you're inside. No, no. Like inside or outside. Just watching that happen.
Okay. Oh my god. They're actually doing that. Oh my god. Like I would, I would be a little bit like,
I would get cringes from that. Like I would like, whoa. Like how would you feel? I would be crying.
That's crazy. Why would you cry? Well, that's beautiful because that's beautiful. That's,
12:06
that's youth spirit and it's beautiful. I would be crying. You have a beautiful heart.
What's wrong with you? But I have never been, you've never seen it. Seen that, done that,
experienced that. Yeah, me neither. What happened? Okay. Like how about you run with her or him?
Wouldn't that make the situation funny and awkward? Okay, that's a bad idea. That would be,
but that would be, that would be, I think you would enjoy it. No.
Okay. That was a, that was a, that ruined everything. Sorry about that. Let's close the
podcast. All right. Thanks for listening guys. Bye.
