Welcome to Devin's English Room Bop-a-Bop podcast!
Yay!
I kind of failed that little echo there.
You okay with the mug cup here?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Have you noticed?
What?
My, um, noise?
Yeah, I did.
The sound?
Yeah, your little clap sound?
Yeah, the cymbal sound.
Okay.
Thank you.
Just a little bit.
Okay.
Okay.
I saw the movie you recommended there last night.
Right.
The, uh, Wander and the other one is The Holiday.
Holiday, yeah.
So, um, I saw them both in a row.
Well, thank you for watching that.
Yeah, it was great.
Um, I enjoyed Wander more than The Holiday.
The Holiday seemed a little bit, um, very simple.
The story was very simple, you know?
It was like a little predictable kind of to me.
Um, but it was a, it was like a, like a Hollywood kind of movie.
The, um, there's laughter.
Yeah.
Comedy.
Love romance.
Love romance.
And, um, it was a very, uh, you know, simple and enjoyable and, um, holiday-ish kind of
atmosphere.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The movie was about, is about the holiday, right?
Christmas, right?
Mm-hmm.
But the, uh, The Wander, that was a, that was a killer.
That was, I loved it.
That was great.
Yeah.
Um, it was, um, so what I first accepted was some sort of, there was like this, um, this
problem that the whole family has to maybe come over, maybe has to, um, deal with and
they do, they, they work hard.
They struggle to deal with the problem and they overcome it and problem solved.
I thought it was kind of like that kind of story, but it was more of like everyone has
their own kind of story.
Just like what you said, you know, when you recommended to me, like, you know, every member
has its own, own little difficulties in their life and they, they, they, they're, they're
trying their best with their own abilities to cope with their situation.
And, uh, and I really found beauty in, in, in that.
And it was a pretty new movie, like 2017.
I thought it was a really old movie, but it was fairly new.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's really good.
Yeah.
If you've never seen it, please go check it out.
That was great.
Wonder.
I, I rented it on, uh, uh, Tsutaya.
Tsutaya?
Yeah.
And then the, the minute I walked out of the store, I realized that I was on, it was on
Amazon prime.
Yeah.
I'm joining Amazon prime right now and it was on it.
Yeah.
I wasted my money on renting a DVD.
You finally in Amazon prime right now?
I'm on a trial period right now.
03:00
Like a two month free trial kind of thing.
Yeah.
I'll probably not continue.
Yeah, but yeah.
Wonder was great.
It was a good movie.
Thank you for recommending.
Well, thank you for watching my film.
Thank you for the recommendation.
Yeah.
The film that I created.
Yeah.
Thank you.
I, uh, you didn't, yeah, I was about to let that go, but.
Have you seen, uh, American assassin?
American assassin?
What is it about?
It was like a, like a C I it's like a, like a guy who's head hunted for CIA.
Okay.
And he, his job is to kill the terrorists.
That's like a basic movie.
I thought I, I think the title is American assassin.
I'm like, you know, there's thousands of films like that.
Like the CIA with the terrorists.
Yeah.
It's one of those.
Yeah.
I saw the movie because I was an Amazon problem.
I was like, what the hell?
I just got to watch more movies.
Right.
I saw the film and I was like, it was actually the first time where I, I did not feel well
because the movie was so grotesque.
Really?
Yeah.
It wasn't like grotesque grotesque, you know what I'm saying?
Like not one of those like horror movies where like they, they take out the, they got the
liver of human beings.
Like it wasn't that kind of grotesque, but it was like the way they tortured their enemies.
Right.
They captured the enemies and they tortured for information.
Right.
And how they tortured them like got me really sick.
Like try to, yeah.
I don't like that kind of.
Yeah.
That like I, I, it was, I saw that like in the morning, in the morning train, I was like,
oh shit.
I had, I haven't even eaten my breakfast yet.
And I'm like, Oh my God, I don't feel like eating any.
I was hungry because I didn't have breakfast.
Well, like after I saw that movie, I was like, Jesus Christ, I don't feel like eating anything.
Like nothing went down my throat.
Wow.
Yeah.
So it was, it was the first experience.
It was the first time I never, I never, I've never had the experience where I see a movie
and I was like, I don't feel well because it was grotesque.
It was so real.
It wasn't like, well, yeah, it was real.
It was real.
And like the way I can imagine, I imagined it and that was the end of it.
That was, yeah.
Yeah.
The one problem about the really good film is that the better that the quality of that,
the actor and actress, you know, it makes me feel like it's the real one, the real world.
So that, you know, it makes me like feel so sad or so like depressed.
Right.
So scary.
Right, right, right.
It's like the real thing.
Are you, so I'm assuming you're not okay.
You're not good with violence, violent scenes or what about like a, like a, like a, like
a normal gun shoot?
No.
06:00
You know, in Hollywood films, it's normal to have like a guy shooting, like, like, you
know, Tom Hanks shooting, not Tom Hanks, but like Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise shooting a guy.
That's okay to me, but it's okay.
It's not, you know, happy.
It's in the okay zone.
Right.
It's okay.
You're not terrified by it.
Like I really don't want anybody shooting around.
I really don't want anybody kill somebody.
Will it make a difference if there's blood or not?
Yeah.
If there's blood, it's much worse.
No blood, it's acceptable.
Okay.
Okay.
But I don't want to see that.
You don't want to see many people dying.
Right.
How about, how about, how about, have you seen Taken?
You know Taken?
I think in Japanese it's like, I think that was the title of the movie.
Why?
The movie's called Taken.
Taken.
Liam Neeson.
No, not 24.
That's no.
Liam Neeson.
You know Liam Neeson?
Yeah.
That's someone you loved, right?
I love Liam Neeson.
The famous film.
Famous.
You know, famous.
I think you've told me that.
I think you've told me that.
I think you've told me once.
Right.
It's about the father.
Father and daughter.
Yes.
You've never seen it?
No.
Ah, okay.
It's 96 hours, right?
96.
96 hours.
Okay, 96 hours?
Yeah, I think so.
Okay, 96 hours.
24 times 3.
Yeah.
Right.
Okay.
Right.
92 hours.
92 hours.
32.
We were so awkwardly bad at calculating.
I still haven't figured out what 24 times 3 is.
I still haven't done it yet.
That must be 72.
Alright, so what's 4?
Give me 4.
26 times 4.
84.
84.
Then 96.
96.
Okay, got it.
So 5 days, right?
5 days, right?
No, it's 4 days.
What?
Wait.
Give me 4 times 24.
Oh my god, we're fucking idiots.
Yeah, it's 4 days.
It's 4 days, so it's not 5, right?
We're fucking idiots out here.
We can't even calculate.
Fucking eating your Chinese food.
Still haven't finished your fucking, goddamn, little takanao Chinese food.
I'm so fucking hungry.
That film portrays his daughter being sold to a prostitute and it was like a little bit,
it's very painful in the heart.
I really don't want to see that.
Yeah, you shouldn't.
You shouldn't see that.
I like the films like, like the Pixar movies.
09:05
They just came out with a new Pixar movie, you know, like the Jazz.
Funky little.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm excited for that.
Yeah, me too.
I'm hoping it's a good one.
Me too.
It's like a musical kind of film, right?
Yeah.
Like a guy who's doing music.
Try to be a musician.
Goes on an adventure.
Oh, okay.
But he suddenly went to like underground world.
Why?
I don't know.
That's the story.
He falls.
He falls?
And he goes to the underground.
Through the manhole.
Manhole, okay.
How do you say manhole in English?
I don't know.
Let's, let's check.
Manhole.
You know what?
It's definitely not manhole.
Definitely not that.
Wait, it is manhole.
Wait.
How do you spell that?
Hole.
Not wait.
Man.
Man is gentleman's man?
Yeah.
Wait, wait, wait.
Hole is...

Manhole cover.
What?
Sounds a little bit sexual, don't you think?
Yeah, it's a little bit sexual.
Sounds a little inappropriate.
