As the deterioration of water pipes buried underground during the period of high economic growth becomes a national issue, attempts to analyze water leakage risk using artificial satellites and artificial intelligence (AI) have begun in Gunma Prefecture.
The Gunma Eastern Waterworks Corporation, consisting of the Maebashi City Waterworks Bureau and eight cities and towns in Tomo, including Ota and Tatebayashi, began conducting water leakage investigations based on such analysis in July.
Previously, workers walked the site to check for abnormal noises caused by leakage, but the new technology will shorten work hours and reduce costs, leading to efficient detection and repair of leaks.
