Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast. So, how's your family?
Um, all good? All healthy? All healthy. Yeah? Thank god. That's good. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so we spent
um three weeks, around three weeks in there. And then my dad, as he's working in the
in a Japanese company, it's really difficult for him to get three weeks of vacations. True. That's
unheard of. Yeah, I mean, it's impossible. That's impossible. So, the longest he could take was
10 days. I see. Well, it's still, still really, still very, um, challenging. Lucky guy, yeah?
Yeah. And so, um, he got 10, 10 days off. Uh-huh. And then he kind of get back to Japan earlier than
I see. He had to leave early. Yeah. Yes. So, that was what happened in, in our family. Okay. But,
so, me and my brother, we both speak French. And, um, Oh, your brother speaks French as well? Yeah,
because he was in French just like me. He went to high school in French, so he speaks French. Oh,
really? Yeah. Okay. Wait, how age difference? How much of an age difference? So, y'all were in
France at the same time, just a little bit then? No. Really? Yeah. Because, um. Because,
how many years of high school? So, the thing is, I went to the first when I was
and then get back. I see. So, it wasn't the whole high school guy. Yeah. Got it. Yeah. And my brother
went to
I mean, he graduated. I see. Oh, he graduated. So, he went the whole high school? I don't know
how he, how he did it. I don't know. Okay. But, he went for a long, longer than you. Um, yeah,
I mean, so it's the same amount. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. But, yeah, so, um, so, we both
kind of know how the country is. Right. We both understand the languages and, you know. So, we're
kind of good. Yeah. And my mom, she also kind of understand French. Okay. And she loves being in a
different culture. Uh-huh. So, she, she was, like, kind of all right. Okay. For anything. Yeah. Yeah.
But, um, but my dad, he speaks English. He doesn't speak French at all. Okay. And he was the guy
felt kind of abroad the most, I guess. Okay. I guess. Yeah. So, he was kind of, um, he enjoyed
the stay, but he was kind of half tired. I see. Of being surrounded by things, like,
unpredictable, un-understandable. Uh-huh. Like, completely new and. Sure. Knowing culture and
everything. Uh-huh. So, um, yeah, like, 10 days was, I guess, perfect for him. I see. I feel like.
I see. Has he, has he ever, uh, ever lived in other countries before? Um, never lived in abroad,
but he loves going on a trip. So, it being many countries, like, way more than I did.
So, I guess, 10 days was pretty perfect for him. I see. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And, um,
yeah, my biggest worry was my mom. The, if she can, you know, survive the whole three weeks
with the, um, you know, transportations and moving to the new cities and, you know,
in a different culture, like, different environment. Yeah. Like, environmental stress.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But after all, she, she did it perfectly. Like, she. You didn't even feel
any stress coming out from her. No. No. No. Wow. So, so healthy. She ate many things. Uh-huh.
Okay. Okay. Yeah. She drinks, you know. Uh-huh. Does she, uh, does, does she drink, uh, alcohol?
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Wine and champagne. Uh, is he strong? Uh, not really. Just average? Yeah.

Yeah. I see. But yeah. Yeah. And he was really, really hot in France. Uh-huh. Yeah. You told me
that. Yeah. He was dry and hot. He was dry and, um, it's like record, like history record-ish.
Oh, okay. The high temperature. I see. And, uh, yeah. During the daytime, it was like 35 minimum
and then like 37, 38. Uh-huh. Things like that. Yeah. And, uh, it continues, like, until
eight morning and then, like, until nine evening, you know. Because sun, sundown is very late. Yeah.
Yeah. Later than Japan. Right. So much, right. So the daytime is really, really long. Yeah.
And so it was, even to me, it was tough. Uh-huh. I see. The sun just drilling at you. Yeah. Yeah.
Throughout the whole day. Right. I see. And we go out. Sometimes we had to carry the big,
you know, luggages and everything. The backpack. Yeah. And go out and. True. Sure. Being,
you know, surrounded by, um, the possibilities of. Being like, yeah, being mud. Pockets and
everything. Sure. We were in the metro. Sure. Mentally, you know. Sure. Yeah. So I was worrying
about that, but she, she was okay. That's good to hear. Yeah. That's good to hear. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Were you okay mentally? Physically? Yeah. Uh, physically, yeah, it was tough. Uh-huh. It was
tough. Yeah. Um, got tired. Got tired. Yeah. Because we were, um, especially for the first
half of the Paris, while my dad was with us. Yes. We wanted to do as many things with my dad.
I see. You know. So you're crammed it in. Yeah. We wanted to visit as many places as possible with my,
with my, you know, whole family. So we planned like crazy schedule. Yeah. And you're the type
that really schedules it out, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. And, uh, yeah, it's like, uh, the morning you go
to this place, to the museum. Yes. And then you get out and eat restaurant. Yes. And go like different
museum. Yes. And then eat, go to cafe. And then that place. Yeah. And that place. Because it's long.
Yeah. The daytime is really long. Yeah. To me, it felt like two days. In one day. Of Japan. Yeah.
You can put it in many things. Wow. So what's good, but at the same time, it's really,
yeah, really tiring. Yes. How about the food? Like, was it, how was the food? Um, uh, so we went to
the United States together. Yes. We went to the UK together. Yes. And we're in Japan together.
Um, uh, if you compare foods in French, France to, let's say UK. Okay. It's,
it's not even a question. Oh. I'm sorry, UK, but it's a different world. Oh, okay. I mean, honestly,
I was the guy that UK was, well, fine. Food's not that bad. Yeah. Especially out of the three of us,
right? You were the one that enjoyed it the most. But honestly, I'm sorry to say this, but it's.
Unacceptable. It's, it's, it's a different world.
Okay. Yeah. It's, I would say it's the same level as Japan.
Well, that's pretty high. Yeah. It's the highest so far. That is very high. Yeah. Um,
they don't have konbini. Um, cause they take a rest. Yes. There's nothing they do like 24,
seven things like that. Oh, okay. So they don't have konbini, but they kind of have like
small supermarket things. And then they sell like little kind of salad and little sozai.
Everything was good. Like, for example, what do you get? Like, what do they sell? Salad?

Well, what do you mean? Like a salad can't be like that, that good. Like it shouldn't go out
of bounds that much. Like what? There's gotta be something that made it really good. Like the
dressing or like what? Like, first of all, like veggies, the freshness. For example, like the US,
UK. Yes. You know, I understand. It's, it's, that is daunting. Yeah. I understand.
So that's different. First of all. So it was as fresh as the Japanese grocery store. Yeah. You
can find at 7-Eleven, you know, you don't, it's like, it's exactly like you can find the freshness
of, you can find in 7-Eleven or like any, um, supermarket. Yeah. Okay. And, um,
the good thing about French food was, um, cheese, um, butter, like those, um, milk products. Yeah.
They're really nice. I would say that's better than Japan's. Oh yeah. Cheese, butter, um,
I didn't find much fishes though, in Paris, especially. Okay. But yeah. And also like those
like little pasta things. Sure. Little, what, like meat, I don't know, meat, or those things. Yes.
The sauce. Yes. Yeah. They're good. They're good. Yeah. They're good. Wow. I'd love to try that.
Yeah. I'd love to try that. They're good. And they sell like fresh fruits. Uh-huh. You can,
like a hakari yuri. Yes. Like a kind of market. Yeah. In a kind of konbini. Uh-huh. Like fruit
section was that nice. Um, cheese, you can find 30 types of cheese in, even in the small shops.
Yeah. Um, yeah. That's good. Wow. Yeah. Wow. But you can not find like rice
things, like sushis. Asian stuff. Yeah. They have sushis, but that was really same to what you can
find in UK or US. It's, it's not. Like fake sushis? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's not the best.
Okay. I see. Yeah. Wow. And, and bread. Bread? Okay. Breads. You should, um, try breads in France.
Bakery. Go to bakeries? Bakery. Okay. That's. The France pan? Like the baguette? Yeah. I mean,
not only France pan, but like. Chocolat? Pan au chocolat? Yeah. Pan au chocolat, croissants,
and everything. They're good? They're good. They're different. They're different. Oh,
you know, there are like some French bakeries in Japan, like Paul. Yeah. No. No. They're different.
I don't know why. I want to know why. I guess the butter and the. Yeah. No. Water. Oh, okay. Yeah.
True. It's just different. It's just different. You should try. You should try. Honestly. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was, I guess I would say that was the top food in France. I see.
Breads. Croissant. What do you mean? Just usual pan. Like a baguette? Yeah. Kind of baguette.
Okay. That was good. Oh. With nothing on? Just plain old. Yeah. Nothing on is fine,
but you can put a little butter. Butter. Olive oil. Oh. Yeah. That sounds nice. That was good.
Sounds nice. I love baguettes. Yeah. I love it. Yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah. You love, um,
breads, right? I do love breads. Yes, I do. Well, first of all, there are many bakeries. Uh-huh. Way
more than we have in Japan. I see. Yeah. It's a bakery country. Got it. Check that out then. Yeah.
Yeah. And also, um, we went to southern side of France. Yes. Um, we tried, um, Mouru. Mouru.
Yeah. What's that? It's a, you know, black, um, shell. Uh-huh. Ah, Mourugai. Yes. Mourugai. Oh,

yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was good. Oh. If I had, if I name the best food that I had in France,
I would say Mouru. Pasta. Mouru pasta or just. That was plain Mouru. Oh. It says Mouru frite.
That's like Mouru and, um. Agemono. Yeah. Potato fry. French fries. And then, yeah, I'm going to
show you the picture. Yeah. It's like, you, you got like bucket. Okay. And then you have Mouru
inside. Oh. Interesting. Yeah. It was nothing else inside. Um, I took a bunch of photos.
So, um, this is it. Okay. So it's just true. Right. Yeah. It's just, I don't know, boiled
Mouru. Yeah. It's like, the pot is like this big. Uh-huh. And you have like a ton of shells
inside. Yeah. And that's for one person and you, you eat whole of like tons of Mouru at one time.
Wow. That was good. That was good. That was good. Yes. And you put your bread in the soup and then
you eat it all. Sure. That sounds nice. I highly recommend that. Okay. If you visit France. Okay.
