Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
Did you do something special on your 年末年始?
年末年始?
Yeah.
You said you bought the おせち?
洋風おせち?
Oh, yeah.
I did buy the おせち.
It was good.
It was good.
Yeah.
I mean, it had roast beef.
Oh my god.
Because all of the dishes, all of the meals inside, they were so special.
It was just, it was, I don't remember what it was called.
Okay.
Like, I have the picture in my mind.
Like, I can, I remember what it looked like.
Yeah.
But I just can't recall what it was.
Ah, you don't know the name.
It was like 何々味のてりいみみたいな。
I see.
I see.
Yeah.
Shrimp, meat, fish, beans.
Yeah.
てりいみ?
Yeah.
てりいみ, right?
Yeah.
That.
Yeah.
It covered the whole thing, I think.
Yeah.
And it was 一人前, so small.
It was edible.
I finished it.
You finished it, yeah.
And it was a good experience.
It was good.
Nice, nice, nice.
I thought it was better.
It was better.
Than the last day, I mean, two years ago.
Yeah, where I ordered the traditional style osechi.
Yeah.
I mean, I was tough, so.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But other than that, I saw the Kohaku.
Oh, you saw the Kohaku?
I saw the Kohaku.
So, I bought a big TV this year.
So, I was...
Last year, you mean?
Yeah, last year.
So, I was actually really excited to watch the Kohaku in like a high quality big screen TV.
And the sound, too.
The sound was great, too.
Ah.
Sound was great, too.
But so, yeah, I mean, that was fun.
Nice.
That was fun.
Good.
Big.
Lovely.
Yeah.
Who did you enjoy the most in the show?
I gotta say bees.
Yeah.
You know?
The surprise and so.
Yes.
That was pretty exciting.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The whole show, everyone was like got together.
Right.
Hi.
Yeah.
Right.
My family did.
Your family did.
I think the whole Japanese country came together.
I think so.
And did that, you know.
That's the special power.
Yeah, special power.
Yeah, special power of bees.
Yeah.
I saw an article after that saying that on the internet there was a fight over what,
is it hey or hi?
Which one do you think it is?
Hey.
03:00
Hi.
Wow.
Which one do you think is the problem one?
But what I said was hey, I think.
Yeah, me too.
I think hey is.
That's what I said.
I'm on the hey side.
Wrong?
I didn't read the article, so I don't know, but it should be hey, right?
Hi.
Why hi?
Yeah.
Why hi?
Hi to what, right?
Yeah.
Maybe Japanese hi.
Hi.
Hi.
I don't know, that still doesn't make sense though.
Hey, like meaning wise too makes more sense.
Yeah, if it was English.
Yeah.
That's what I thought and I did.
Yeah.
It was more natural to me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Me too.
But they have that argument.
Yeah, a big argument.
It's a big argument.
Over, yeah, which is the correct way.
So that means there are a big amount of people.
That's right.
Who claims that it should be hi.
Yes.
Yes.
A lot of strong believers in the hi.
Hi.
So hi.
It's true.
You can't really tell if a person is saying hi or hi.
Yeah.
So.
Hi.
That's difficult.
Yeah.
You don't know.
I actually can't tell.
Especially when you're in a crowd.
Everybody's saying it, right?
Yeah.
I also enjoyed the kendama challenge.
Yes, me too.
Yeah.
I mean, every, the pressure on every one of those guys.
Like thinking about it.
It's nerve wracking.
That's too much.
That's too much.
So too much pressure.
That's too much.
Yeah.
And it's getting longer and longer.
Longer and longer, I know.
The song ended.
Yeah.
And there's a timing that a few guys are just doing the kendama.
Exactly.
Right?
Right.
The ending sound.
That's tough.
That's tough.
No, I can't.
That's tough.
I can't do that.
I think I would fail on that one.
I don't think I can make it.
Yeah.
I can feel like it's okay.
Like I can live with it when like the first 10 TV talents are doing it, right?
It's like DJ Koh makes a mistake.
That's funny, right?
Right.
That's funny.
But like the kendama kyokai people?
Yes.
I can't watch them.
I can't watch them, you know, ruin the whole challenge.
Yeah.
It's too much.
That's too much.
Yeah.
That's too much.
I feel like there's a name of a phobia for that.
Like, you know, like Shugo Tai Kyosho's one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Kyokansei.
Kyokansei Shuuchi.
Yeah.
It's not Shuuchi, but Kyokansei something.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I feel like there's a name for that too, right?
Yeah.
Right.
My mother doesn't like that.
Oh, yeah.
She doesn't want to watch it because it's too much.
I feel like a lot of people feel that.
Yeah.
There's too much pressure there.
Yeah.
But my dad and me, when the kendama comes at me.
Yes.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
06:00
My dad, it's our favorite.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The thing is the miyama-san that the singer sing so well.
He sings so well.
He's so good at singing.
But no one's listening.
I'm so sad and sorry for him.
He sings so nice.
The ability, the pitches and controls and everything.
The highest level of that show.
But nobody listens to him.
He's not even on the screen.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, like there are several moments where like he's not even on the wipe, right?
He's just completely, fully Kendama.
It's really sad, the moment he starts singing, and then, phew, he goes to the edge.
That's sad.
And you know there, Kohaku
did make a highlight of that day's shows.
Oh, really? Okay.
Before the Kendama Announcement.
And then some people like,
like that, like two seconds every single time.
Two seconds, yes, yes.
Like that, and every performance I do that.
And Miyama-san's scene was like, Kendama.
He's a singer though, right?
Yeah.
He's a Kendama guy.
He sings so well.
Did you see the domino?
Yes.
That was another similar kikaku, right?
Is that all in one?
Like, so what I didn't understand, was that all connected?
Or were there several short dominoes just hiding under, behind the camera,
somebody just knocking it off?
Yeah, I think it's all connected.
It's all connected?
One goes that way to two, and one goes that way, and one goes that way.
I see, so it's all connected.
Yeah, I think so.
Wow, okay.
Did they like, do a rehearsal for that or not?
I know, right?
Like the thing about the dominoes is that you never know when somebody would knock it down.
So like, one hour before the actual air,
someone could knock it down.
Right.
And like, what would...
Many people around that.
That is pretty...
It's great that they pull it off.
It's amazing.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
And she sings very well.
Absolutely.
She's a great singer.
Everybody watches her domino.
Only the dominoes, right?
It's highlighted.
Yeah.
All right.
All right, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
