DJ体験の難しさ
So, you experienced your first DJing at a private party.
And you said it was difficult.
It was difficult.
So, level zero, you said.
Level zero, yes.
That was hard.
Nothing special.
Like, you know, nothing like the ones you see on YouTube, like the club DJs or those ones.
Yeah.
I just wanted to play it continuously.
Right.
And that was already difficult.
See, I don't know how it's difficult.
You pick a song.
Yeah.
And you play it one before end.
Yeah.
I don't know how it's difficult.
Well, I mean, you can obviously do that.
Like, you can...
ターンテーブルの技術
So, what DJ have is two turntables.
Yeah.
And so, what I had was analog two turntables.
Sure.
But can be digital.
Okay.
So...
I think I know what you're talking about.
Yeah.
So, first of all, you play this one using one turntable and you play one song.
Yeah.
And then, when this song is going to be ending...
You play the other one.
You play the other one.
Yeah.
And you put like this.
Right.
You adjust the volume so that it's, like, gradual.
True, you're right.
Yeah.
Gradual sort of transition.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Easy peasy.
Easy peasy, yes.
But what's difficult was...
曲の選択の重要性
So, first, you...
I mean, cannot be random songs.
Like, for example, let's say if you play Bruno Mars' Runaway Baby.
Okay.
And then, after that, you play Ed Sheeran's Photograph.
Okay.
It doesn't make any sense.
They're just like, what?
And then just, oh, okay.
I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Your music...
Obviously.
Yeah.
Musics are continuously going.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it's not musically continuous.
I understand.
Yeah.
You're killing the vibe.
Yeah, you're killing the vibe.
The mood is completely different.
Yeah.
But I...
Yeah, I understand.
I wouldn't do that.
I know you wouldn't do that, too.
That's easy.
Like, you just have to choose a song that, like, you know,
vibes with the crowd.
Yeah.
Yeah, an up-tempo, energetic song.
Yeah.
Just go for that, right?
Yeah.
But that's difficult.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
That's difficult, first of all.
But you have the whole song to choose, right?
You have the whole song for you to think about the next song, right?
So, for DJs, it's rare that if you play a whole song...
Oh, you just only play the section of the song?
Yeah, because it's...
Oh, I see.
If you play, like...
It's too long.
DJの苦労と曲の選択
Yeah, the same song for, like, three minutes, and then...
I see.
They get bored.
Yeah.
At least, like, first half, you have to change it.
Sure.
And also...
So, you have to, like...
If you have digital turntables, you can connect your Mac or your phones and everything.
So, you can go to your library, at least, and you can search everything.
But...
So, I guess that was first thing.
I was on the analog turntables, and they were, like, limited vinyls.
So, I had to choose from the limited amount of vinyls.
Okay.
So, first, you have to know the songs.
Yeah, right.
You know, there are, like, Stevie Wonder's albums, Michael Jackson's albums.
But which songs are which song, and then you have to choose it.
That was one point.
And, yeah, I thought it's just...
What?
It's just easy.
Like, you can just play it just randomly.
It's just that...
Yeah.
But, man, that was difficult.
Every time I played, like, this must be good.
And it just doesn't sound good.
It doesn't sound good.
It doesn't sound like...
Doesn't vibe anybody.
Like, I always killed the vibe.
I always did that.
So, there are two tips, I guess.
One is the tempos and, like, rhythms.
You have to kind of match it.
Okay.
So, you have to know the tempos of the songs.
And that's difficult.
I don't know the tempos.
Like, I know there are, like, some, like, up high, like, rock songs.
But I don't know the tempos.
So, before I play the song, I thought that's going to be a really good transition.
But, actually, there's not any...
Oh, shit.
Well, give me an example of the two songs that you tried to transition and didn't work out.
For example, like, I tried to play Stevie Wonder's...
I forget the exact ones.
But, let's say, Sir Duke.
And then, after that, I played Earth, Wind & Fire.
September, for example.
Wait, how does Sir Duke go?
Okay, okay.
It's a funky song with a kind of...
Yeah.
Kind of up, up, like, funk song.
Yeah.
And then, after that, I played, let's say, Earth, Wind & Fire of September.
Yeah.
I thought it's going to be a good transition.
It's both funky songs.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, I mean, yeah, to me, that's going to work out as well, I feel like.
If you're a good DJ, you can do that.
Okay.
You can adjust the timing.
You can slow down the one song and match it and smoothly transition, I guess.
But it was almost impossible for me to do that.
DJの難しさ
So, the transition details was difficult then.
Yeah.
For example, like...
You know, you've got to kick.
Yeah.
And...
Well, I guess it's not that far.
But it has to be matched.
It has to be, like, continuously goes.
I see.
You know, that's the smooth, and that's how it should be.
I see.
But when I do that, like...
And that's...
I did that.
And then everybody was like...
You know?
And that was difficult.
So, that's what's difficult about DJing, then.
Yeah, like rhythm and smooth transitions.
Having a smooth transition is difficult, then.
Yeah.
Song choose, I guess that those two isn't that bad.
But if I actually play that, it can be bad.
Do you get to listen to this...
How exactly do you adjust the two different tempos for two transitions?
Do the right ear listen to the original one?
Left ear listen to the next one?
And then, like, you adjust it before you get it out to everybody?
Yes, yes, yes.
And then you do...
Is that what you do?
Yeah.
So, you know, DJs have, like, headset, right?
Yeah.
They can play for only the headset, not the speakers.
So, before the speakers play the song, you can inner listen and adjust the tempo.
But first of all, if it's, like, two obviously different tempos,
if you, like, slower one song, it's going to be like,
Do you remember that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not good.
So, first of all, you have to choose, like, five, at least, BPM differences.
All complete different tempos.
And you do, like, some kind of techniques.
You put a little sound, maybe.
Oh, I see.
I don't know.
Like, you know, they sometimes do, like,
and then next song.
Kind of those ones.
I think I know what you're talking about.
You put Michael Jackson shouting,
and then next song.
That's cool.
But if you just play two songs randomly, it's just...
It just doesn't make sense.
Oh, okay, I see.
And, yeah, I was really looked down...
Downing the DJs, actually.
Well, like, because to me, like, how could it be difficult?
Like, it's like you say, like, you just play the songs and then...
I can do that.
I know music and I...
Yeah.
Yeah, but I...
Honestly, I have to practice.
Sounds fun, though.
Yeah, you should try.
I would love...
I would love to do that.
That sounds really exciting and fun.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I'd love to do, like, but for, like, club DJs,
DJのパフォーマンスへの理解
you know, they buy a ticket and come to dance, right?
Yeah.
And so much pressure on him.
Like, what if he makes a little mistake and everybody just...
Just couldn't dance.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And you have to practice before that.
That's true.
That's true.
Yeah, I didn't...
I didn't... Honestly, I didn't know that that difficult.
Yeah, I see.
Yeah, but you should try.
I would love to try.
That sounds really fun.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's not that difficult.
Like, the basic rule is you can just play your music forever.
And then all I have to do is make it sound cool.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Vibable.
Yes, yes, yes.
Okay.
So...
Sounds fun.
Yeah.
It's just...
Yeah, it's just that.
So...
No, you can just do that.
Yeah.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
