Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hey guys. How's it going?
Jimmy O Yangのコメディショーについて
Oh, I suddenly remember one thing that you went tothe stand-up comedy show by Jimmy O Yang, right?
Yeah, I did. I did go there with Jimmy O Yang.
Right.
Yeah.
Did you... How was it?
It was great.
It was great?
Yeah, it was great.
I think I haven't heard the episode from the...
Yeah, I don't... No, I don't think I talked aboutit.
Yeah, I forgot about it.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I went there with a friend.
Right. For anyone who doesn't know, Jimmy O Yangis a very popular, famous Asian comedian.
I think he's Chinese-based in the United States.
I think he starred in the start-up drama, comedydrama.
Some comedy series in America that was verypopular.
But, yeah, I think he started off with that.
Yeah, as an Asian guy.
Yeah. And, all right, he does stand-up comedy.
And he came to Japan and I went there.
But you couldn't come, right?
Yeah, I couldn't come.
So, unfortunately.
But, right, I went there and it was great, man.
It was great.
It was fun.
会場の雰囲気と観客
Wow. You said that was held in...
Tokyo Kokusai Forum, right?
So many people in there, right?
So many people there.
How many?
So many. I have no idea, but a lot.
Yeah, okay.
A lot, a lot.
Okay. I see.
Many Japanese or...?
Yeah, I think, I would say 80 to 90% Japanese, 20%Western.
Wow.
Yeah.
But...
He's famous.
It's funny because at the venue, at the entrance, most people are talking in English.
Even though they look Japanese.
I see.
Even though they look like a normal Japanese.
I thought I was going to be filled with a lot of Kikokushijo looking people.
Yeah.
The cliche.
But many people looked so just born and raised inJapanese people.
I see.
Yeah.
But it's weird because most of the language youhear is English.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, and then...
Right, right.
That was interesting.
Yeah.
And then some...
ショーの内容と構成
Many of the jokes were like Japan-related.
You know, how he came to Japan and experienced allthese things.
Yeah, it was funny.
Right.
Was he alone?
He had a guest, comedian.
I think it was a Japanese comedian that does standup in Japan.
Oh, I see.
That person did, I think, several minutes of...
Like a starter show, starter talk.
And then came Jimmy O. Yang.
Oh, I see.
He talked for like an hour and a half, I think.
Without anybody?
Yeah, alone.
Yeah.
That's great.
Yeah.
He didn't take any breaks.
Wow.
He just kept going.
For an hour and a half.
Yeah, it's pretty...
Pretty, like, impressive.
Yeah, yeah, true.
Energy he has.
True.
It's definitely funny.
Very funny.
So nothing on stage?
Just one guy standing with a microphone?
That's right.
No fancy lighting or no, I don't know, explosionor fire.
Nothing like that.
Wow.
Wow.
Just a little video.
I think he had a video.
He made a video.
He played it.
As a content?
Yeah, as a content.
Yeah, that's it.
Wow.
So I guess, you know, the ROI must be huge, right?
In terms of money.
Yeah, sure.
He's from the United States.
So I don't know how much the flight fees...
Oh, right.
The flight fees and the hotels and all.
Yeah, true, true.
Still.
Still, though, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
スタンダップコメディの形式と観客とのインタラクション
I've never been to those, like, stand-up comedyshow before, but I don't know if that was, like, anormal cliche stand-up comedy because it was just, the audience was just too big, I guess.
I see.
Usually, I guess, it's in a more smaller crowd, Iguess, like maybe like 20, 30 people or 40 people.
It's more like, I guess, the audience can actuallyshout more.
Only one person shouted.
Yeah.
There was one guy who kept shouting.
That was funny, too.
Jimmy O. Yang handled it so well.
So funny.
Nice, nice, nice.
You know, I feel like that's when the real skillcame in.
That's the juice of the show.
Right, right, right.
So I'm kind of glad that there was one loud guy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, because I got to see, like, how he woulddo things, like, on the spot and handle it.
You can't prepare beforehand.
Right, right, right, right.
All right.
Yeah, it was great.
But only one person kept shouting.
That's it.
Yeah.
I see.
So you wanted to do something smaller and you can, like, interact maybe.
Oh, well, yeah.
I mean, that would be like the, you know, authentic, like a normal, like what you'd usuallysee, right?
I guess that show was more of a, you know, show, Iguess.
Yeah.
Right.
Nice, nice, nice.
Yeah.
Right.
日本でのスタンダップコメディと文化理解
Didn't you say you went to, like, a stand-up showin Japan?
There's a place in Japan that does stand-up showsin English.
Yes.
Or maybe Japanese.
I don't know.
What?
In English, maybe.
Didn't you say that?
Didn't you say you went there?
Like me?
No?
I don't think so.
Did I?
OK.
Maybe I forget.
But yeah, at least I don't remember, like, authentic stand-up comedy show.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think.
I think.
Yeah.
Right.
Sorry if I forget.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sorry for the comedian.
Maybe you'd like it there.
Stand-up comedy.
To do?
No, no, no, to go there and enjoy the show.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe, maybe.
It's so new.
Is it?
Yeah.
It's so different from the Japanese comedy.
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah.
Do you think I will understand the whole comedy, the whole jokes and everything?
Or is it too complicated, like, too difficult?
I think.
I think you'd understand more than half, at least, you know?
Yeah.
But you need some knowledge.
Or like, or words are difficult.
There are going to be times where they're going toreference culture, you know, trends.
And that maybe you might have to really be in theculture to understand it.
True.
But like, I think, but there's going to be a lot.
I feel most jokes are going to be like non, noneof those things.
Like if you're, especially, you know, if it's acomedy show in Japan, it's much more
easier for the Japanese audience than I feel like.
Yeah.
True.
Yeah.
Because sometimes I see those jokes and the partsthat I don't get is something
they're referring something like a CM, very famousCM in the United States or like
very famous, I don't know, like actress, actors, like, you know, those.
I don't know who those are.
Topics, right?
The trendy topics.
That's difficult.
You got to keep up with that.
Yeah.
トレンドの把握とエンターテイメント事情
Do you keep up with like these trends in France?
No.
No.
OK.
I don't have no idea what's going on.
OK.
French TV or.
Comedy, news, celebrity, all that.
News, yes, sometimes something like big happens, especially.
But no, other than that, like those.
OK.
Cultural things.
OK.
How about Japan?
Are you keeping up with the.
I believe so.
I don't know.
Maybe not.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Maybe not from your point of view.
Oh, really?
Maybe not.
But like, you know, like celebrity trends.
I have an image that you're not that into.
Yeah.
Japanese celebrities.
True.
I think in music.
It's true.
Music scenes you're really into.
Yeah.
But maybe you have more knowledge than me, maybe.
Especially those new things, maybe.
OK.
Ai no Hana.
Oh, yeah.
How much did you know about the Kohaku?
Oh.
I know most of them.
You know, OK, you got it.
Yeah.
You got it.
You got it.
Honestly, yeah.
I know most of them.
OK.
Yes.
Yeah.
So I think I'm still keeping up.
I think you're there.
I think you got it.
I think you still got it.
Yeah.
But I guess dramas, movies.
I don't see movies recently.
OK.
Yeah.
You know, those things.
I think I'm very poor.
Like new ones, like new movies you're talkingabout.
I mean.
Yeah, especially.
Especially like a new actor, new director, whatever.
Yeah.
Actually, me neither.
Oh, OK.
Or like actors, especially Japanese ones.
Well, Americans as well.
I'm not that good, actually.
Yeah.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
