Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hey guys.
So you want to talk football?
Yes.
Spain won the World Cup. I saw the highlight.
You saw the highlight, okay.
I saw all of the musical performances.
Yeah, halftime show.
Halftime show.
Yeah, what do you think?
Okay, so let's talk about the football first.
Sure.
How's your impression on that game?
So it's 1-0.
1-0, yes.
Overtime.
Yes.
Is it called overtime? Additional time?
Additional time, yeah.
Additional time, right, and then Spain...
But I saw a lot of the comments saying that, youknow, Spain protected, saved a lot of goals.
Like Argentina shot so many goals, but Spain did agreat job with the goalkeeper
and saved so many goals is one of the comments Isaw.
Okay.
I was like, oh, that's...
No?
That's not true.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, because Argentina, they had like zero shoot-off.
Oh, really?
Yeah, until the very last moment.
Oh, I didn't... okay.
So I think the opposite.
Very misleading comment.
Yeah, so Spain did like so many shoots and tries.
Oh, okay.
The goalkeeper did it, like, good saves anddefenders, like, very nice tackles and everything.
So I think that's...
I guess that was a comment for the Argentines.
Yeah.
Spain's.
But okay, so I'm assuming that Spain did a similargameplay with the last one.
I think it's France.
With France, where they sort of, you know, passedthe ball around with all the other players
so that the opponents can't get them.
Yeah.
I guess that's what they did?
Yes, exactly.
That's the tactical.
That's how they do that.
Okay.
That's Spain.
Which means it wasn't a fun game to watch.
But so I would say it wasn't the best excitinggame ever.
Okay.
But it was better than Spain-France.
Okay.
Because Argentina did it pretty good.
They couldn't, like, shoot.
They couldn't, like, you know, get to the finalthird.
Okay.
But they were better than France.
I would say.
They were better than defending, attacking onbasically anything, everything better than
France.
So they did...
It was more like a fight against two teams.
Okay.
That's better.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
So overall, what do you think?
Well, Spain was strong, I would say.
I would say the strongest team won the World Cup.
That's, like, fair enough.
Kind of.
Okay.
Yeah, they were strong.
They are, like...
Yeah, they're strong.
Okay.
03:00
But yeah, but personally, I wanted Messi, youknow, get the last, you know...
Championship.
Beautiful trophy.
Because it's obviously...
Well, we're not sure, but it's his last World Cup.
So even though I was for Spain from the beginning,I love those players.
But still, my feeling was like, yeah, still.
But it's his last final game.
So I...
Yeah.
There was a part of you that wanted Messi to holdthat trophy.
Yes, yes, yes.
Okay.
But sadly...
Not sadly, but yeah.
But I would say Spain was strong.
Okay.
Yeah.
And also, one more thing I noticed was, you know,as the United States have so many
AC-controlled stadiums, you know, with the roof,it's all conditioned.
Right.
Cool, very comfortable to play with, to play in,play at.
But the stadium the final game held was theoutside stadium.
Oh, okay.
And it was very, very hot.
It looked so hot.
Okay.
So all the players were like...
Looked a bit tired because of the sunlight.
It was outside and it was the daytime game.
Okay.
Because of the hostel, TV, you know, worldwide, like they adjusted the time for, you know...
And also, the reason why they chose that stadiumwas it was in New York.
Okay.
They wanted to do it at New York, you know, thefinal game should be New York.
And personally, I didn't like that.
I wanted to see the best performances of the twoteams, all the players.
So it would be, you know, more lovely if they heldit in, you know, those like AC-conditioned
stadiums to protect players, like not having thelike hydration breaks.
Okay.
But just why don't you...
If you want to protect those players, like whydon't...
Hydration breaks, yeah, okay.
But why don't we do that like in AC-conditionedstadiums?
And that's my opinion.
Like both teams, all the players were kind of liketired a bit.
Not fresh, fresh.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
But overall, Spain was strong.
So there are no, no...
Against the Spain winning.
Okay.
But...
All right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Understand.
They were strong.
Yeah.
Well, what do you think about the musicalperformance then?
Oh, the halftime show?
Yeah.
Um, I...
06:00
Well, so I would rate it...
Well, it's not bad trial, I would say.
I love music.
I love Justin Bieber.
I saw the two Brazilian players driving withMadonna.
I saw that too.
Yeah.
Like Ronaldinho and Ronaldo.
Yeah.
Ronaldinho is my idol.
Okay.
So I was very happy that I saw him smiling.
Okay.
Beside Beyonce, Madonna.
Yeah.
But to be honest, like as...
As a show, I think they could have done it likebetter.
Like they had like such a stars like JustinBieber, BTS, like everybody.
And it could have been better than that.
Yeah.
Don't you think so?
I understand.
When you compare it to Serpable, for example,Serpable has a much more complicated set.
Yeah, it's more like a...
Yeah.
You know, you get much more depth, like, you know, and much more of a, you know, different camera
angles and like the props and...
Yes, yes, yes.
The, you know...
Yes.
And it, you know, the World Cup stage looked morelike a...
They were just singing on the field.
You know, there wasn't much stage props there.
It wasn't much decorations.
And it did look kind of...
I know, I don't know.
It was like a little tasteless.
Yeah, yeah.
I agree.
Right.
But of course the performers, they were great.
Oh, yeah.
Right.
So that's that.
Yeah.
I don't blame all those artists, but the showcould have been more beautiful.
Right, right.
I understand.
Yeah.
If they have those cars, they could have done it.
Like, they could have made, like, the great show.
Right.
I was a little bit disappointed that they didn'thave, like, a collaboration.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It was all standalone.
Right.
Switching to each other.
Right.
It was seamless.
But, like, there wasn't any, like, you know, collaboration happening.
There wasn't any, you know.
Right.
Yeah.
The best moment from the Halftime Show was theydid a Norway Viking Row thing.
Oh, yeah.
In the show.
I love that.
Yeah.
They should have done those things more.
Like, putting those, like, country things in theshow.
Like, more cultural things in it.
I noticed they changed the lyrics a little bit.
Oh, really?
Like, yeah.
Soccer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I understand, like, it was, you know, it wasdifficult to build a huge stage on the,
you know, football pitch.
Right.
I understand it.
Right.
So.
And I guess Justin Bieber wasn't planning on goingfrom the get, right?
09:01
Yeah, it was, like, a few weeks ago.
Yeah, it was a surprise.
Maybe last minute, like, join.
Yeah.
So, maybe it was harder to, you know, do all that, maybe.
Yeah, I understand.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right.
So, another four years.
Yeah.
Why did they do four years?
Why not three?
Isn't four years a little bit too long?
Yeah.
Like, when you think about all these, like, marketers, right?
That wants to add.
That wants to do a lot of these, like, events.
It's kind of hard to believe that they only doonce every four years.
Yeah.
Like, it feels like they would have wanted to doit, like, even more.
Like, maybe three times, or maybe even two.
So that they would have, like, more revenue comingin.
I don't know why they don't do that.
I don't know.
They're keeping the traditions straight.
Yeah, I think so.
Just like Olympic games.
They do it, like, once in four years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We have, um, that was a boys were on the cup.
Like, men's world cup.
And we have FIFA women's world cup.
Just like, uh, the Olympic games, like, summer, like, winter.
It's, like, two, two years, two years.
Oh, I see.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
So, just like that.
Oh, okay.
So it is happening, then.
But to me, it's good to wait to the next world cupfor, like, four years.
Okay.
And, like, waiting for the time.
And also, they have to do the qualification gamesin each country.
That takes time.
It takes time.
Okay, I see.
Yeah.
So they can do, like, every year or, like, twoyears.
Okay, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
But it's over.
Right.
Another four years.
It was fun.
Right.
It was fun.
It was fun.
So I would say way better than I expected the USAworld cup.
Oh, yeah.
USA, Canada, Mexico world cup.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Before the game, people said, like,
oh, this is going to be a crazy bad world cupbecause of everything, everything.
Did you see the moment where Trump came in?
Everybody booed.
That was pretty fun for me.
Everybody booed.
And the last moment that he, Mr. Trump, handed thetrophy to the captain of Spain.
And then, you know, the team do the trophylifting.
Yay.
Yeah.
And then Trump was like, do this.
I saw that.
And he tries to film himself in the camera.
Oh, my God.
It's kind of nasty.
Yeah.
What is he doing?
God.
All right.
So great world cup done.
Yes.
Yes.
It was fun.
Thank you.
Thank you for the great games.
Yeah.
Sad.
Well, in the next tournament, I hope Japan will bewinning.
Without any injuries, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
12:00
Hopefully.
And make it.
Yeah.
All right.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
