ワールドカップ敗戦の落胆
Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
So by the time this episode is out, I'm sure it'sway past the season.
But the World Cup, though, man. Oh, yes. WorldCup, though. It's the first recording after we've
lost against Brazil. Oh, true. Yeah. So how areyou feeling, man? Sad. Very sad.
Mm-hmm. We could have won. Okay. All right. Wecould have won. Yeah.
Sad. Yeah.
Oh. Yeah. You saw the Chiayi on air, on the spot.Yeah. How do you feel?
Did you see the match? No. You didn't see thatmuch? No, it was way too early.
Yeah, it was way too early. Yeah, it was like 2 a.m.
Was it? Yeah, 2 a.m. Yes, yes, yes. Sort of 2 a.m.Yeah, yeah. You see the highlights?
I did see the highlights. Okay, okay. Two to one.Yeah. And Japan lost, right? Yeah. Yeah.
I only saw the highlights where they shot, wherethe shots were made. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm not
the overall atmosphere. Okay. And like the bolushihairitsu and everything, but yeah. Yeah. It is
sad. It is sad. I didn't know if it was winnableor not. It was winnable. It was. What was the,
what do you think was the reason why we couldn't?Yeah, so
one. So, okay. Three reasons. Okay. Okay. Allright. One,
敗因分析:采配と選手層
the koutai, senshi koutai. So, so our plan wasdefend like hardly, very strongly and then get the
and fast break. Okay. That was our plan. Yes.Because, you know, those like Brazilian wingers
like attack us, like everybody like coming, likeattacking to us. That means you have a huge space
behind them. Yes. So you get the ball and justspeed attack. That was our plan. And we did pretty
well on the first half. We got score. Okay. Wedefend very well, but as you can imagine,
it's tough. You have to run a lot to defend you, you, you stepping like sidestepping andeverything.
Yeah. It's tough for like legs and muscles andlungs. So you have to like defensive players,
all the players are like getting a bit tired andthen you, the headquarters changed two players,
the wing back players. It's very important toplayers, to places because on the defensive
situation, they go back and do very defensiverole. Okay. You have like five defenders and thetwo
side ones, two, two, um, side defenders. But whenyou get the ball, those two, they have to run
to like the, I would say like very top, like veryfront side. Okay. And do like a very attacking
role, like winger attacker role. Okay. So it'svery, very important. And when we started, we had
attack, attacking players like who can dribble, who can, who runs fast. Okay. Who, who loves shoot
or, you know, those ones on that position. But onthe second half head coach changed to two players
and then put two like defensive players on thewings, on the wings. Okay. They were,
their strong point was like defending. Not theshooting. Not the shooting and not the attacking.
And it's kind of understandable because Brazilianswere like very, very strong.
They attacked like very heavily. And it's 1-0.Yes. All you have to do is just keep it at 1-0.
Yeah. Right. So you have to like, I understand youput like two defensive players and you defend
them. Yeah. And yeah, I understand. But if youstart defending, it's the start of losing. You
have to, you always have to have the mind thatyou, you attack if you, when you have the ball.
But that Kotae, that doesn't like, because of thatKotae, all the players were like, okay,
we defend. Like we don't attack. We just, we justdefense. I see. And that, I think that wasn't a
good, I mean, the best Kotaesaku. I see. Yeah. It's understandable. It's understandable, but
less courageous, I would say. Yeah. Yeah. I thinkthat's, to me, that's like one of the big
turning points. I see. Yeah. Makes sense. Yeah.Yeah. So that was one. And two, well, if I say
this, it's like, it's, but like, we didn't havelike many options because of the injuries.
Kubo-san wasn't there. Kubo-san wasn't there. Wedidn't have, from the, first of all, like we
didn't have Mitoma. Right. We didn't have Mitoma,Endo-san. Endo and Minamino and like many players
weren't there. So. The options were limited. Yeah. That's, especially like attacking options.
So that's, we had them like, we had like manyplayers, like many options. And we started
using Mitoma-san's or like, I don't know, Doan-san's from the beginning as a winger. And
then on the second half, you can put more likeattacking players on that positions. So. I see.
Yeah. I see. That's a shouganai. It's a shouganaithing, but still I felt it. Okay. To be honest.
ブラジル代表の勝利への執念
And third one, the Brazilians, the spirit, I'dsay, and the head coach is like tacticals.
I remember Netherlands, Oranda, they were verytall. They have like athleticism,
but they play beautifully. They. No dorokusai.Yeah. They don't do that. They think they are
one of the strongest teams, like beautiful, one ofthe most beautiful football countries. So they
passes balls, do beautifully. Brazil, they didn'thave that spirit. Okay. Winning is everything.
Okay. So even though they have like tricky, dribbling players, like everything, like
skillful players, they didn't do that. They justsimply like kick the ball and just do like
headings. Like they simply like, you know. Theywanted the ball to be in the goal no matter what.
Winning is everything. And I felt that was spiritfrom the players and also the head coach ofBrazil.
He changed the formation so that they have likemuch more players in front of Japanese goal.
And then you easily like just kick the ball intothat crowd. I see. Like a miracle would happen.
Yeah. Some sort of a random lucky chance wouldoccur. Yeah. And they make it intentionally.
So, and they are like one of the best players. Andthen they did that. So like,
like how strong, like the desire of winning islike very, very strong. And that was, yeah.
That was three reasons why you think that. Yeah, Ithink so. Makes all, every one of them makessense.
他の試合と世界との差
Yeah. Yeah. And did you see the, that was theround 32, right? Maybe. The first game of the
tournament. Yeah. Yeah. I think that was thismorning or yesterday's line. Whatever. Oh, Brazil
versus Norway. Yeah. With Holland. Yeah. I didn'tsee it. Okay. I just saw the head. Yeah. Yeah.
I just saw the headline. Yeah. Norway won. Yeah. What do you, what do you think? It was 2-1.
Okay. And Norway was very strong. Okay. Okay. Sowe, we defeated against Brazil and then Brazil
defeated against Norway. Your point is that we, wewould have faced Norway anyhow. So it was a
tough game. Yeah. Right. Even if we won againstBrazil, against Norway would have been very,
very difficult game. But yeah. So one is like theSekai no Kabe is like very fake. Okay. You,
you know, you, you have like many more strongteams before winning the World Cup. That's what
I felt. And also like I felt somehow it was likejanken thing, like Brazil, Japan, like Norway.
Oh, okay. But we could have. If the janken wasgood. Yeah. It's like a Aisho of the teams. Like
日本代表チームへの思い
yeah. I saw a headline that the way Brazil playedagainst Norway was kind of like shocking to the
Japanese because to the Japanese Brazilians, theyplayed, their play wasn't that good. So Japan was
like, we lost to this? Yeah. Was kind of theheadline that I saw. Right. Was it kind of like
Yeah. Yeah. All right. Was it Norway very strongor Brazil didn't made it well? Yeah. My, my head
line was Brazil. Brazil was kind of. Okay. Yeah.Yeah. I felt it. Oh, okay. Yeah. All right.
You know, I really wanted to enjoy the World Cupwith the Japanese team more.
Me too. You know, at least like until the top fouror something, you know, I wanted to see that.
It was so fun. Yeah. You know, it was so fun.Honestly, this team was very, very good team.
Yeah. We had very good players. We had like aconnection between players. It was a, yeah,
it was a good team. Yeah. So I really wanted tosee them like more matches, more games from them
beating like strong countries. We could have donethat. The Kega. Yeah. Kega is pretty. Yeah.
Yeah. Unfortunate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Brazil, theymanaged it pretty well. Okay. On Japan,
against Japan. Okay. Yeah. They changed thetacticals and to win what they thought they,
they changed. They, they adjusted the formationand everything to the best to win, to beat Japan.
So, yeah. Okay. But what about the game againstNorway? Yeah. They didn't,
they didn't look strong team. Oh, really? Yeah.Okay. Don't know why, but.
Oh. Norway was too good, maybe? Maybe. Yeah.Maybe. Okay. Maybe. What's going to happen to
カーボベルデ代表の躍進
Moriyasu coach? Is he, is he gone? Is he going to,is he over? We don't know yet.
Because he did such a good job for a long time.Yeah. Yeah. He did it like eight years. Yeah.
Two World Cup. Right. That's, that's prettyimpressive, no? Yeah. I haven't seen anyone
so long. True. So, yeah, he did it pretty well. Hemade good team. But it can go away. Yeah.
It's, it's possible. It's possible. To like, getsome new blood coming into the team. I see.
Maybe more tactical, maybe? Okay. Or, I don'tknow. He was very good at like,
building teams. Like, team, team. I see.Connections and everything. Okay. But
both possible. Maybe. Okay. Yeah. Maybe next fouryear, maybe. But maybe new coach, maybe.
Who decides? It's the JFA. It's the, the Kyokai. Isee. Yeah.
Well, we'll have to look forward. Yeah. Yeah.Yeah. Yeah. It's another challenge. Right.
It's, it's four years. A lot of things are goingto change. Yeah. Right. It's 2030. 2030. Yeah.
Oh, it's a long way. It's a long way. It's a longway. Yeah. But you have this World Cup going on
still. Still. Right. Yeah. Right. So, did you seethe, um, Argentina against Cabo Verde?
Uh, no. No, you didn't see that. You know, theCabo Verde. The goalkeeper. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
The 40, 40 something years old. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.Um, the Cabo Verde, it's the first time
for them to appear on the World Cup. Yes. They arelike very small island country.
Um, same population as Koto-ku. Wow. Okay. Andthen they're like making a like history right now.
They, um, draw against Spain, 0-0 on the firstgame. And then 2-2 against, against, um,
and then like three draws and then qualified tothe next round. Okay. And then the first
match was against Argentina, including Messi.First match against them with a tournament.
Yes. Okay. Yes. Yes. It's like the god Messi. Uh-huh. The defending champion Messi. Right. Versus
the first experiencing World Cup. Yeah. Makinghistory. The newcomer. Very small country. Uh-huh.
And, um, man, Cabo Verde did it. Like they didvery good game. Oh, really? They did. That was
the best game so far to me on this tournament. Oh,really? They were very good. What was the, uh,
outcome? So Argentina won. Okay. Like ultimately,uh-huh. They were strong. Okay. But, um, it was
like a see-saw game. They scored one. They scoredone. Oh, really? Yeah. What was the ultimateresult?
Uh, I guess that was 3-2 or 2-1. Oh, man. They gottwo points from Argentina? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Well, that's pretty impressive. Yeah. That was, yeah, 3-2. Yeah. I thought Cabo Verde was likegood
at defending and just, just like always this.Yeah. Keeping the gates closed. Yeah. With thegreat
goalkeeper. Uh-huh. But no. They were like verygood at playing football. Oh, really? The passskills
and like how they control the balls. Uh-huh. Howthey carry the balls and everything. I was
blown out. Like, where were you? Like, I, I don'tknow your name, but you're such a great player.
Oh. I was, it was great game. Well, okay. But now.Honestly, like, they're not like, you know, those
like famous players at all, I would say, but. Uh-huh. You don't hear their names in the European
League and. I don't think so. Like one or two, yes. But I mean, they were very good. Like,
like very good. So we'll, I guess we can, we canexpect to see, start seeing them in the European
League. Yeah. Maybe. The coaches will be. Yeah.Yeah. You know, headhunting them. I think so.
I think so. Well, that's a great job. Yeah. It wasvery, they were like, literally like
punching against Argentina and like. Like theycould have won. Yeah. Yeah. Man. It was a great
game. Man. So, so yeah. World Cup itself is likevery exciting, even though we lost. Yeah. Japan
lost, but. Right. Still. Still a lot more juices.Yeah. To be squeezed. Yes. Okay. Yes. All right.
