Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
This one.
Hello, Mr. Nia. Nice to meet you, Mr. Kevin and Mr. Yama. Thank you for your fun talk.
My husband and I are traveling the world right now.
Even though we are overseas, we don't have many opportunities to listen to or talk to each other like this, so we listen to each other every day to get used to English conversation.
The other day, there was a topic of training, but since my husband is a trainer, he always stays at a gym.
When I travel the world, I find that there are few hotels with gyms in Europe, and even if there are, I find that there are many places that don't put much effort into the gym, such as walking machines.
Do Europeans not train much? Or is it because America is special?
I would appreciate it if you could give us your opinion.
It's just different?
Yeah, they love the gym.
Yeah.
Love the gym.
Right, right. And also, I think you have space.
Yeah, a lot of space. Lots of land.
Right, right. You have lots of land, so you can build a big hotel, you know, that has gym spaces and everything.
That's true.
Whereas in Europe, it's like you can't build a building from now, kind of, especially, for example, like Paris.
Yeah.
You can't build a new building from now, because it's...
Is there a law that prohibits that?
Yeah, I think so.
Sort of like...
You have to prevent the...
The looks.
Yeah, yeah.
The aesthetics.
Yeah.
Okay.
The tradition of them.
Oh, okay.
Like, keep what they have.
And not, like, randomly, like, broke and then build a new thing.
And then build a new one and make it futuristic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay.
So, it's more like hotel in Europe, if you say.
It's, you know, I don't know if you can imagine, but it's more like European hotel.
Oh, I definitely don't understand that.
Okay.
Yeah, you know, it's more like...
It's more European.
It's more European.
It's old, it's traditional, it's antique, classic, you know.
But it can't have a gym.
So, they don't have gyms, they don't have...
Spas?
No, they don't have spas, they don't have...
Body massage?
Body massage, maybe, but...
Maybe?
Laundry room?
Laundry room, true.
03:01
Not sure.
They've got to have it for convenience, though, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Obviously, they're not aiming to be the latest models.
I see.
But more like...
Keeping the tradition.
Classic ones.
I see.
Would be, like, high rated in the society.
I see, I see.
So, that's one difference, maybe.
I see, I see.
Yeah.
How can I be more excited to see the world like you?
What do you mean?
I would love to enjoy discovering new countries and new environments.
Yeah.
But I'm just not.
You're not interested in?
I'm not interested in it.
But that's a good thing.
What mentality can I learn from you?
To be excited to discover new countries.
But that means you're happy with what you're having right now, right?
But that doesn't mean you're not happy with what you have right now, right?
Right, I'm happy with what I'm having right now.
Yeah.
True.
But I want to be excited for more things.
I don't know.
That's a difficult question.
What excites you when you go to a different country?
What?
Almost everything.
People.
The people.
Nature.
Okay, well, tell me about the people then.
What are you excited about the people?
Like, what are you expecting from them?
Like, are you going to talk to them?
Yeah.
Ideally, talk to them or just observe them.
That would be interesting for me.
Like, what are you going to observe?
What are you going to observe?
Like, at a restaurant?
Like, are you going to just stare at some random guy next to you?
Not staring, but like a…
Like, just observe what's going on?
Yeah, yeah.
Like, how they're eating, how they're dressed.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, walk, how they walk, how they…
Oh.
Like, how they live.
But it's fun.
Like, for example, when you're in the United States, you go get into Walmart and watch,
for example, like, drunk people randomly going,
you know, that's interesting, no?
Watching them, how…
What's going on inside?
What's the real society is like?
Okay.
I think that's a similar vibe.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's one.
I see.
Yeah.
What's your mindset of going to places that are a little bit dangerous?
What's my mindset?
Yeah.
Like, would you be excited to go to a country that's a little bit, like…
Yeah.
Okay.
Tell me about that.
What makes you want to…
What makes you…
What's so good about that?
So, first of all, I don't want…
I don't want to have a danger.
06:01
You don't want to be in danger.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If it's possible, I would love to keep myself in a safe position.
Yeah.
And do some safe trip.
Yeah.
That's, first of all, that's my mindset.
So that doesn't mean I just want to go to a dangerous place or something like that.
Yeah.
Like Maruyama Gonzares, right?
You're not like that, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it's just really, really different from what I know about the world, I would say.
The fact that it's so different from what you're used to is what's exciting.
Yeah, yeah.
That's a trigger to me.
Even if it's dangerous, that overcomes it.
I mean, that leads to become dangerous to me or to you.
Uh-huh.
But I think it's not dangerous for them, right?
Okay, that's true.
It's their rules and their lives.
Mm-hmm.
So, yeah.
It's just true it's dangerous, but I'm more like triggered by the difference around me.
I see.
I see.
How they, you know, live.
What they eat.
Oh.
You know, how they think happiness is.
You know, all those things triggers me.
I see.
So if it's possible, I don't want to go to a gun place or something like that, you know?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
You like human beings?
In general?
Yeah, I think so.
You like human beings?
Yeah.
I think so.
Yeah.
It's interesting.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Oh.
I see.
Yeah.
No, you don't?
I don't.
I don't think that's in me.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know.
How many countries have you been before?
Okay.
Japan.
Japan, yeah.
America.
America, yes.
Korea.
Paris.
Paris, yeah.
Italy.
Italy.
What are some of the other European countries?
Germany?
Spain?
No, no.
Portugal?
No.
UK?
Yes.
UK, yeah.
Yes.
Anything else?
Swiss?
No.
Belgium?
No.
Belgium?
No.
Russia?
No.
Turkey?
No.
What country is Amalfi?
Italy?
Italy, yes.
Okay.
Okay.
Monaco?
No.
No.
Okay.
Greek?
Greece?
Maybe.
Maybe Greece?
Maybe.
Maybe Greece.
Yeah.
When was that?
When you were little?
We did a family trip to Europe, and my parents took us.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
To European countries.
09:01
Yeah.
Right, we spent about a week or so.
Yeah, nice.
Yeah, so.
So when you were a little kid, kind of.
Yeah, high school.
High school.
Yeah.
It wasn't that small.
It's not that, yeah.
Right, right, right.
Oh, and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong?
Yeah.
Taiwan.
Taiwan.
That's very new, right?
Yeah.
How did you enjoy that?
Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan.
Yeah, it was good.
It was fun.
It was fun.
It was fun.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it was fun.
But like, it was probably because I was with somebody, like, you know.
I see.
Would I go alone?
No.
No.
No.
Yeah, but that's the same here.
Oh, you wouldn't, you would.
I mean, I can travel by myself alone, of course.
But if I have somebody that I can, you know, share things or like talk or whatever, it would
be more, you know, that makes it more.
Enjoyable?
You know, enjoyable.
Sure.
Yeah, yeah.
Sure, but it's still, you'd find, if you had a chance, you would go alone.
Yeah, true.
Right?
Yeah.
That's different.
I see.
I would not do that.
Okay, okay.
I would love to be excited even if I'm alone.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Be able to want to go.
So.
You said you love strolling around.
I do love strolling around.
What's good about it?
I feel like something is close.
Well, because you're strolling around in Tokyo.
Because I love Tokyo.
Maybe you love Tokyo.
Maybe I love Tokyo.
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
Maybe.
So that's why you don't, you're in like a dream place and you don't want to leave Tokyo.
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Maybe, yeah.
Maybe.
Because to me it's the same feeling that you go, for example, Asakusa and see the temple
and people and what's, you know, people doing and go to Akihabara and see the people, maid-sans and everything.
Yeah.
Just go to Paris and Hong Kong and Seoul and everything.
That's true.
Yeah.
Maybe you just love Tokyo too much.
Maybe.
It's true.
Yeah, I don't want to leave Tokyo.
And of course you have to pay.
Yeah.
Maybe that's why, you know.
Maybe that's why.
Yeah.
It's just not enough of a deal.
Yeah.
Maybe that's true.
Right.
That's true.
Yeah.
Right.
Well, I mean, that's that.
So.
Yeah.
Maybe someday.
Maybe someday.
Yeah, someday.
I'll start being interested naturally.
Right, right, right, right.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
