Welcome to Kevin's Engsroom Podcast!
Alrighty!
So...
Professor Yama.
Yes, I am.
Is it cat or fox?
It's a little bit of both, I guess.
Isn't that the joke there?
I don't know.
OK?
OK.
半年?
Yes.
Yes.

Creeee like baaaaah
yeah but that's true like this this is the size
yeah this this small yeah you go to Moe's and it's like boom
like oh get that mountain size cheese
it's so big and good is that expensive or it's not expensive
oh how much is that like this big like mountain size
i'm probably like i don't like seven dollars eight dollars
really yeah yeah yeah
yeah that's that's not expensive at all it's not expensive
you go to Taco Bell and order like that size like
and with drink and just little potatoes in like
20 yeah yeah i don't think even 25 and it's small yeah yeah wow
so i really do want for that Mexican styled dish here
i want to enjoy it here i've never they're all really small
yeah they're all why are they so small because it's it's
expensive here in Japan yeah i've looked into it before i've
actually did some research on why why the pizzas are so small
oh the hamburgers are so small the nachos are so small
okay okay it's the it's the you searched on i actually yeah it
doesn't it's the it's the ingredient cost that's very
that's that's american boy yeah come to japan
yeah yeah yeah first things why why is this all this small
why burritos are this small and oh wow
it's the ingredient cost plus the appetite of the japanese people they're
they don't want that much food they're yeah that's too much for japanese
the trend is eat less be healthy that's the trend
and it's um people don't buy stuff that's too big
right yeah yeah places like outback steakhouse or
places like
tgi fridays still has that culture of like
boom okay i think okay in my opinion okay
like ever been to an alpac steakhouse uh no no but tgi yes yeah i mean alpac
steakhouse by the way is australian but it's it's
they still got that okay big plate oh really and it's it's it's
09:02
like it's really hard to finish when you get used to the japanese
oh really yeah how it's unlimited bread too oh really yeah
is it difficult to keep it in japan like in that style
no like having huge things and unlimited bread and leave me like
expensive in japan yeah i don't know how they do it though
i don't know how the outback steakhouse continues to do it
oh i i don't know they they keep doing it
effort effort i guess company effort i guess yeah
i mean i i think tgi fridays has gotten less in portion size i feel like
yeah oh yeah you're so professional about
potion amount
yeah i become sensitive to it very sensitive to that
okay yeah um are those mexican chain restaurants in
japan popular in japan even yeah so
that's another very interesting topic when
when taco bell's first arrived in japan they were making a huge line
yeah remember when it like it's a long line to get
shibuya yeah and um now you go to taco bell's very sad very
disappointing sadly closely nobody nobody
yeah literally no one's there yeah like i see one or two customers there i went
to the taco bell's in odaiba the other day
very very poor very um old yeah old and empty that's sad the
employees are like all oh
hey guys oh that's oh no they were really
that's so poor as a mexican restaurant they should be like
whoa come on guys and no yeah there's it was very the vibe was very um
very sad vibe very sad vibe very sad
yeah uh so i guess the japanese people did not enjoy the mexican food
like i love i mean i enjoy mexican food like for example
when i went to taco bell okay i do enjoy its food it's so delicious
but i don't know why but i don't choose taco bell
that much when you like have multiple choices why
i don't know i don't know it's like uh
i wouldn't rather choose hamburger shop over like taco bell or those that
mexican food is it the store vibe problem
are you not comfortable in a taco bell's
12:02
restaurant well taco bell's menu is a bit difficult to understand
no like combo things oh really yeah to me like oh okay okay okay like to me
which one is burrito and which is like nachos and like first of all those
words are a bit um difficult maybe yeah i see like
nachos plus burrito combo what does that mean
what does what what is it like you don't know what you're getting yeah
that's one maybe and also like yeah like culturally
maybe a bit different like far like farther than like for example
like hamburgers or like right they're not used to it yeah ramen stores
yeah another thing that i thought was you know because they only give out
these small portions right the cheese is not much yeah and the cheese is
and the experiment that you get from that dish is very
different from say chipotle or moe's yeah
because i know the the joy of the mountain popping
nachos
i guess there's that background in me of like
yeah there's like this like you know when you go to disneyland when you're
young yeah and you go to disneyland an adult you get that back in the old days
feeling of like that joy of that you had memories and everything
right it really sugar coats the um yeah
the experience right maybe i have that that
joy of mountain nachos right and like when i eat the nachos here
yeah it kind of sugar coats it it kind of really like
filters it in a in a bias way yeah yeah and maybe if
there was a company like a store where they would
really give the the japanese people the ultimate experience of like the chipotle
or the moe's experience maybe they would love it as well right
and i guess that's where yeah they tripped or
it got lost yeah because we don't have that experience
yeah like we don't have that image toward those
mexican food restaurant it's just one of the options right right
and it's very disappointing yeah yeah very sad
that like the mexican food joy is right not something that you can enjoy here in
japan right yeah true
like even like mcdonald's we have some memories of like happy set oh yeah
like we get some toys or like play house and
yeah like fun we kind of know that it's a fun place yes but towards like
those mexicans we don't have the image like it's just one of
15:00
one of the restaurants absolutely absolutely yeah you're right
i think japan should close down some of the chinese places
because there are too many of them why is there so many chinese restaurants in
japan it's just neighborhood it's just like uh
it's just you have mexican food in the united states
we have korean chinese restaurants in japan that's i i think that's that
yeah there's this country neighbor so it's just called
that's true that's true yeah you're right you're right yeah
you're right well all right so yeah but i wanna we support
we support taco bell as we do we do support
i really hope the future of the mexican
yeah food culture in japan would really like
grow i really hope that i because i really personally really want to eat
memos yeah yeah again yeah i've looked into it
where can i get a really like a full-sized
nachos experience here i i didn't find any wow
and i try to i try to look for it on the grocery stores like i try to buy each
ingredient but i couldn't do it oh really i just couldn't i just couldn't
get to that same level like it wouldn't soften yeah it's
heated up it's heated oh it's hot but i couldn't do it i
couldn't do it like i don't know how they do it yeah
but it's it wasn't same oh maybe i haven't tried maybe i haven't had
authentic mexican maybe you haven't yeah if you have it it's all i only i know
is just a taco bell like this portion size and yeah no like
mountain one so well by the way i'm talking about
mexico food that you eat in america okay i'm sure for like
like the real like authentic mexican like i'm sure that's different and i'm
sure that those people despise the those and the chapatley of like that's not
that's americanized yeah mexican food but yeah i've i'm
talking about the americanized yeah yeah yeah yeah just
want to right get that respect yeah respect the mexican yeah of course
all right so right thanks for listening guys thank you bye
