Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast!
Hi guys! How's it going?
Alright.
So, this one for today.
Okay.
This is from Mina-san.
Mina-san?
Okay.
Okay.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I can find a lot of things, mostly related with junk food and desserts.
Those, you know, like hamburgers.
Are they cheaper than…
Yeah, they're cheaper.
Like, same price but bigger.
Very big.
If you think about the same portions, then yeah, it's cheaper.
Barbecues.
Pulled pork.
You know, Mexican food, better quality, I think.
So much better.
Cheaper.
Yeah, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, all that good stuff.
Mexican foods in Japan, we talked about this several times in the show, but very expensive in Japan.
In Japan, very expensive.
And it's not, it's like more authentic-y Mexican, right?
It's not like the California, like the Texas Mexican.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, the Americanized Mexican, which is the one that I like, so yeah.
Yeah, true.
Yeah, I mean, a lot.
Ice cream, you know.
Ice cream.
Yeah, ice cream.
Brownies, I've been saying that a lot in this channel.
Yeah, but food mostly, I think.
Okay.
Other things, I don't know if America would beat Japan.
Electronics, no.
No?
Stationaries, no.
What?
Customer service, no.
Definitely not.
Out of control.
I really can't think of anything else.
Clothes?
Clothes?
No?
Not cheap, maybe.
I don't know.
Low quality and cheap, Japan's high quality and expensive.
I really can't compare.
Right.
Yeah.
I'm recently, sometimes go to, like, furugia-san in Japan.
And they're selling kind of very expensive T-shirt.
Yeah.
Which they went to the United States and cultivate and found and brought back.
Okay.
And they say that that's the American vintage has a, like, quality.
American quality?
That is stronger than what you can find in Japan.
Okay.
It's more...
Yeah, that's what they said to me, like, it's stronger.
I mean, it depends on the brand, though.
Some brands are very, like, tough and durable.
Yeah, but some brands aren't.
That's right.
Yeah.
I was talking about some kind of those used for the armies.
Oh.
During the war time.
Okay, maybe.
Maybe that's the stronger.
Yeah, maybe that could be it.
Yeah.
What else in the United States?
What about in France?
Anything good quality and cheaper?
Cheese is good quality and cheaper?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, I mean, I do understand cheese is a big culture of France and European countries, but...
Yeah.
Actually, cheaper.
Way cheaper than what's sold in Japan.
Uh-huh.
It's, you know, you sometimes go to the cheese store or something like that.
Yeah.
They have many varieties of cheese.
Like select shops as well, right?
Yeah.
They have those cheese sections.
It's sold very expensive.
Yeah.
They look fancy and fantastic.
Right.
Oh, but that's just...
In France, they can find those things in just a supermarket.
Uh-huh.
Sold in, like, a...
You know.
Everywhere.
Everywhere.
It's daily foods.
Yeah.
It's like milk.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So...
So, not only cheeses.
Mm-hmm.
I feel like almost everything's from France.
Mm-hmm.
Looked expensive in Japan.
Like what?
Like pâté?
Yeah, pâté.
Uh...
Baguette.
Yeah, baguette.
Yeah.
Pain?
Yeah.
Like pain au chocolat?
All those.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
Bakery from France.
Uh-huh.
Looked expensive in Japan.
It is.
But it's just a bakery in France.
It's a...
Like there's this bakery in Ginza 6.
Right?
Yeah.
That are super expensive.
Like 800 yen per piece.
Right, right, right.
900 per piece.
Right.
From France, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
But it should be, like...
Should be at the...
Like an ornigiri?
Or something, you know.
Oh, yeah.
It should be everywhere.
Okay.
It's a very...
Or like usual clothes brand in France.
Uh-huh.
When they came to Japan,
they looked like very expensive, high-quality,
too sophisticated brand.
I see.
But it's...
Well, I mean, good quality, of course,
but not that special, I mean.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
It's like cheese factory or wine.
Wine?
How about wine?
Is that cheaper?
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What are some of the other famous foods in France?
Cheese, wine, yogurt.
Oh, okay.
Yogurt.
Yogurt's pretty cheap in Japan, no?
Is it cheaper in France?
True.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
In Japan, too.
Or pâtés.
Okay.
Those things.
Or like hams.
Hams.
Right.
Especially...
Like dried hams?
Yeah, dried hams.
Or, you know...
Grapes?
No?
Maybe.
No?
Yeah.
Or like pastas.
Pastas.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
How about soccer?
Is soccer more high-quality?
Like, do they do more high-quality plays in France?
In France?
Or in Japan?
That's a good question.
Oh, no.
No, I mean, I'm not gonna...
I'm not gonna do that.
Okay.
Yeah, but...
Yeah.
I'd say...
Okay.
Wow, it's a...
Yeah, I would say yes.
Okay.
For the question.
Because some Japanese players, like JD players...
Yeah.
Stepping up and plays in France.
Right, right, right.
Is that what is happening currently.
So I would say yes, but...
I'm not sure...
The French league is too physical.
They don't have...
Japanese league is more like tactical, I would say.
Okay.
They're more like technical.
Yeah.
They play with the ball, like tricks and passes and moves.
That's what Japanese league does.
Yeah.
French league is like, you know, you kick the long ball to the forward guy and just run like this and like...
Your physique is better.
And just win the game.
That's what French league is.
Right.
Yeah.
How about when you look at kids?
Like elementary kids, middle schoolers, all that stuff.
When you compare that, different quality?
Yeah.
Do you also see that same thing in kids as well?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's more, even more...
Apparent?
Apparent.
Because they don't...
First of all, they don't have the concept of Bukatsu.
Okay.
So they have like a club.
Okay.
Which they play only Saturday and Sunday, every Saturday and Sunday.
So when I went to France and I explained how I play football as a Bukatsu.
Because I played every day, right?
Yeah.
After the school, like from Monday to Friday.
We have practice on Saturday and Sunday.
It's like you practice every day, right?
Yeah.
And that was very surprising for them.
Are you a professional or something?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I would say that's a huge difference.
So we're more like collective, tactical, high level in that way.
Yeah.
If we battle, which one will win the game?
Right.
It's their own style, I guess.
Yeah.
They're just...
In France, they're just chilling.
They just come to Sunday and just...
Without any training and like smoking.
Yeah.
They're having fun.
They're drinking beer and coming.
You know, but they're big and they're fast.
Yeah.
And it is, you know...
Right.
They just dribble every ground and then just shoot without any tacticals.
But, you know...
It's a different style.
It's a different style.
Yeah.
All right.
See, it's interesting.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye.
