Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
Hello.
Alright, so pick this one.
Not this one.
This one.
大根サラダさん。
Yama-san, Kevin-san,
Yeah, me too, me too, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So according to several kiji, the more common one is eating.
Soup.
Eating soup, yeah, eating soup.
Technically, you can do both, is what they say.
Technically, you can, but the more common one would be eating.
Eating soup.
Yeah, because there's a lot of solid food, right?
There's a lot of solid stuff in there.
There's a lot of like chewing and crunching to do, right?
It's not just plain old liquid, yeah, that's right.
So you have to bite into it a lot.
03:01
So that's more of an eating than a drinking, yeah.
So eating would be the answer then.
Okay, yeah.
You can use both.
Yeah, I mean, I can, like, to me, it's just, it doesn't feel weird if somebody says drink
soup.
I'm drinking soup.
Yeah.
But like, technically, I guess you can use both, but I guess eating is more common than
not know that.
Yeah.
Well, in Japanese, you don't say, soup, soup wo taberu, soup wo nomu.
Well, I mean, soup wo taberu, that of course makes sense, but soup wo nomu no hou ga, we're
not sure.
Sou ne.
Soup wo nomu.
Because you have taberu soup, which is special, which is a counter, right, to the norm.
That means nomu is the natural verb for that soup.
That usually means there's a lot of guzai inside, right?
Like big vegetables, meats, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right.
Miso soup tabeta?
Miso soup tabeta.
Yeah.
But if you say miso soup tabeta, that's not a sentence, but if you say soup tabeta, that's
a sentence, right?
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah.
How about, miso soup kyuuin shita?
Is that doable?
Is that an okay phrase?
Miso soup kyuuin shita.
Yeah.
No? No?
How about...
Okay, how about...
Did you take miso soup?
I mean, honestly, that could be one option.
Uh-huh.
For like...
Like if you have to take in sodium.
Yeah.
Like a certain amount of sodium.
You have to take some...
Something from it.
If you're like a professional athlete or something.
Yeah, right, right, right.
It's not for enjoyment.
It's for your body.
You're only talking about like...
Nutrition.
Yeah, right, right.
Because you say...
That's right.
That's right.
Yeah.
Could be.
Could be.
Yeah.
Favorite... What's your favorite soup?
Soup?
Yeah, anything.
Anything?
I know what you're gonna say.
Okay, what's that?
We'll say both at the same time.
Okay.
Soup, right?
Okay.
Yeah, but...
It's very close.
What is that?
06:00
It's basically...
Tomato soup.
Yeah, I think we...
Yeah, talking about the same thing.
Basically the same thing.
Yeah, I love minestrone.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I love clam chowder.
I like them.
Yeah, I like it too. That's my most favorite soup.
The best one?
I love them.
I love...
The clams.
Yeah, the clams.
I love clams.
They're really nice.
Juicier guts. I love it.
I know.
Is it different? Like clam chowder in the United States?
Oh, it's very same.
Very same.
I love them.
I know. I love clam chowder.
I think you're gonna get me one tonight.
Don't they have it for Campbell's chicken?
Yes, they have.
I love that.
Yeah, me too. Especially like this winter season.
I know, when it's cold outside.
Get that clam chowder going.
Oh, yeah. I love that.
Oh, nice.
That is so nice, man.
I was so jealous of that.
Maybe I go to a random park and...
Yeah, I should do that.
Weirdo, but worth it.
Weird old man, but worth it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Bye-bye.
