Welcome to Kevin's English Room Podcast.
Hello.
I have a question.
Okay, I have a question.
That I had when I was in my house during when I had COVID.
And it could be a stupid question.
This could be like a like a question that everyone already knows the answer to.
And you could be like, oh, it's because of this.
And I might look stupid. It's possible.
Yeah.
I can't think of a like a like a like a legit answer for this.
Okay, okay.
You know how during several years ago when we were on lockdown and like after lockdowns,
many of the stores were like closing early.
Right?
Like the izakayas, the ishokuten were like if they closed at like 11.
If they usually close at 11, they would close at 10.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Or like 9.
Right?
Right.
Looking back at it now, like it gets me wondering, like what was the point of that?
Like what good did that do to anything?
Like did that...
How would you justify that as like a valid way of like stopping the spread of COVID?
Because like so what I think happened was that people who had plans of drinking,
they were like, oh, we would just we would just make it early.
Like if their plan was to start drinking at 9, they would just start drinking at 8.
Yeah.
Right?
And I don't know how much that kind of got people to cancel their nomikai.
Right.
Like I don't I mean, it could be like I feel like that just either tracked up the schedule
or kind of shortened the schedule.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
However, though, like the noko-sesshoku-jouken is like if you were in the same room for like,
I don't know.
I don't know.
I forgot like 15 minutes or something.
And like, I don't think that kind of shortened the nomikai to less than 15 minutes.
Right.
Right?
It was like two hours to one and a half.
Like what difference did that fucking make?
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If that like, that's my question.
Oh, wow.
I started wondering this question and I couldn't find a legit answer.
Wow.
Is that what you're thinking?
I was in bed thinking about what was that supposed to be?
Like why did people because I'm like to this day, some of the stores are still closing early.
Right?
And I'm still kind of pissed.
Oh, true.
What difference does this make?
Yeah.
Right?
And the hyakka-tens, they usually be even before COVID, they close at eight.
Yeah.
And during COVID, they close at seven.
Who goes to hyakka-ten from seven to eight to begin with?
Like that was already not crowded.
Yeah.
Why do they have to do that?
Right.
So my ultimate point was it wasn't at all because people just wanted to play the game of like,
oh, I'm joining the good service of trying to spread the COVID movement.
Yeah.
Like I'm joining the game.
Like I'm in the community.
Yeah.
Like I'm contributing to society is what they just wanted to do instead of like really.
Like because if they really wanted to like trying to stop.
Yeah.
One of the solution could be like, hey, keep your nobikais short is what they could have done.
Right.
If you keep your nobikais short.
And yeah, I mean, that could be a solution.
Right.
政府の方針に対する評価
But they decided to, the government's plan was to like close earlier.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I can't find a valid reason.
I can't.
I can't.
Wow.
Any thoughts on this, man?
I mean, well, I think that's a very, very good point.
I mean, so I think there are many like, um, um, again, so on, on that, that, that active
act itself, I guess.
Um, but, um, so let's talk about that later.
Yeah.
But the, I, I, what I, what I feel, um, most important is like you, you remember that thing
and then you have to like, um, how do you rate?
You have to like, uh, justify that, that action itself was good or not.
The evaluation process.
The evaluation is very, very important, I guess, because I haven't been thinking about
that.
I just, I just don't like let that go and just, oh yeah, that just happened.
But was that truly important or not?
Was that like act of that government was right or not?
It's, I think it's very, I mean, I mean, as a, as a part of a democracy environment,
I guess it's very important.
I think it's very important to look back and talk about this.
Right.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
So that's first.
Yeah.
It's a very good thing.
It's a very politically great thing to do.
It's very important because if you, if you, if you don't say that to me, like to everybody,
I will just let them, let them go and just forget about that.
Right.
So that's true.
That's true.
Yeah.
That's true.
It's a very positive way of looking at it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, um, so cause, cause first of all, we don't know how effective that was.
Yeah.
Like, well, I mean, it's, I think it's very difficult to calculate.
True.
Because we, we didn't do the other.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that's.
There are no data for it to compare.
Right.
Right.
Right.
But still we have to evaluate about that.
That's true.
How, how effective was that and how many, um, you know, COVID people were prevented or those.
So, yeah.
And also, um, so that's, that's first my opinion.
So.
Oh yeah.
Well, thank you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think it's very important.
Yeah.
Yeah.
To, to, you know, that action itself.
Um, um, so I guess it wasn't the, uh, so I, I, I heard the, um, um, news at the period.
政府による時短営業のルールに従うレストランやバー
Yeah.
It's not those like, um, restaurants or bars that decides to, well, like ultimately they
decided to shorten, but it's like government to.
Government.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Kind of set a rule.
And if you, if you shorten, then you, they will like pay for.
They'll give you money.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like the, the restaurants and bars that kind of had to obey that, you know, new, like,
uh, you know, campaign.
Right.
Right.
So, um, I, so the restaurants and bars, they, I guess they are same stance as you like, why,
why should I kind of, and I'm not, they're not sure about how effective that was, but,
and also they, they are, that's their business.
So they, we want to do our business, but have to like shorten it due to that, you know,
the rules.
The government stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They may be right, but they may be not right.
So, um, yeah.
So I guess it's a lack of, lack of, well, not lack of, but like not enough knowledge
on COVID at that time to actually think for themselves of like, oh, is this actually a
good thing?
Yeah.
Like there was too many unknown factors to COVID.
Right.
Right.
Well, I kind of understand if there are many unknown things and unpredictable things happening
at one time, they just do it, whatever they, it's like a trial and error kind of, just
try this and try this, try this as an, you know, government side.
But I heard so many restaurants and bars went to very difficult situation due to that, you
know, in a campaign.
So who owned that responsibility?
If that campaign wasn't like critical, we never know.
And also, you know, I remember when those like Zidang things is doing well, restaurants
キャンペーンの効果や責任の評価
and bars are heavily restricted, but on the other hand, like everybody was on a train.
That's true.
Packed in a train, you know, like, you know.
So many flaws.
Yeah.
Right.
It's not perfect.
Yeah.
So I agree, it wasn't, why they strictly did that on that period while the others are like
a not fair kind of.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, so the basic reason of what I heard to shorten was try to shorten the party time.
Right.
Yeah.
Shorten the party time.
If the party goes from 8 p.m. to like 4 a.m., then it would make sense to shorten that crazy
time.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, I mean, I guess, I guess like don't have less parties, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's what they say.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, we never know how effective that was.
Right.
Right.
Right.
True.
True.
Right.
Just one or two.
And the important fact is kind of we almost forget about that.
Yeah.
Evaluating it.
コロナ禍による営業時間の短縮
Yeah.
Yeah.
I guess it's true.
Wow.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, I mean, I don't have legit answer either.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Me neither.
But, yeah.
Me neither.
Just, I just.
Well, thank you for reminding me.
Oh, no.
That's true.
As a, as a part of democratic country.
Yeah.
It's important.
Yeah.
It is important.
Truly.
It's very interesting that you think about that while you are.
Right.
I was in COVID, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It kind of reminded me of the COVID days.
Oh, I see.
I see.
Yeah.
Like, oh, this.
People were kind of like locked in their houses.
Right.
Right.
And like, oh, the stores were closed.
And it kind of gave me like a flashback on the whole crisis situation.
I see.
I see.
I see.
And I'm like, oh, some stores are still kind of like affected by this.
Like.
Right.
And like, it got me thinking like, why did they close early in the first place?
Yeah.
I see.
That's how I started remembering all that shit.
Right.
Yeah.
All right.
Thanks for listening, guys.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
