New Yorkの印象
Welcome to Kevin's English Room podcast.
Hello, guys. Hello.
Anything, anything in mind?
Many things, many things
like small details and details.
The New York metros.
OK.
Was really like dark.
Not clean.
Right.
And really an inconvenient
when you because, you know, the window
were very small.
OK.
And actually really difficult to see
which station we were.
Mm. Right.
So, yeah.
That's true.
That was one thing.
That's true.
And you can barely even hear the announcement.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, even you?
Yeah, I couldn't catch it.
Yeah, so I was like always,
wait, which station is this?
And yeah, right, right.
Yeah, that was one thing.
The platforms were really.
Yeah, had a negative vibe.
Yeah.
Like like a crime scene.
Yeah.
Like, you know,
that was dark, was.
You know, trashes.
Yeah.
And like smells.
Yeah, smells bad.
Yeah. Right.
It's daunting.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was very.
Impressive to me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I went to Central Park.
Mm hmm.
That was bright, sunny,
very clean and really like open.
Right.
Yeah, that was very nice.
Right.
Great place.
Come to think of it,
Central Park was clean.
Yeah, very clean.
No trash.
Yeah.
So many like uplifting fives.
Yeah.
Everybody was like enjoying their times.
Mm hmm.
Relaxed.
Yeah.
Lovely place.
That was.
Was a lovely place.
Yeah.
So that was kind of weird to me as in contrast,
like you down the metro,
you really like, you know,
the kind of dark side of New York City.
Yeah.
When you have to Central Park then,
wow, it's like a very healthy city.
Mm hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was my impression of New York.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The pluses and the negatives.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The positives and the negatives.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
大量ポーション
And also everything was huge, like large, big.
Like portions?
Yeah.
Portions.
Yeah.
Even like the coffee's that I.
Now you're going to start saying coffee's.
Coffee's that I ordered.
Yeah.
That was like this big for just usual size,
like this big.
Would that be a large in Japan or like a.
I mean, that's.
More than large?
Yeah, more than large.
It's like a bowl.
Like a soup bowl one.
Yeah.
I went to a coffee shop.
Coffee shop for like a breakfast one day.
Okay.
And I ordered just usual coffee and then bowl of cereal and then croissant.
Okay.
And that's kind of enough for me in Japan.
Like the usual size of breakfast.
Yeah.
When I go to those coffee shops, they serve me like this big coffee bowl and cereal is
like this big and croissant was that big.
And I was like, Oh.
I was like, yeah, food fighter.
Oh, God.
But very early morning and like a local cafe.
Yeah.
That was a cafe.
Yeah.
Wow.
That was tough.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Everything was big, like a road, buildings, cars, people.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a different thing.
Recommended Places in New York
What was the one thing you would recommend?
If anyone was, were to go to New York, like to visit, visit, like to food.
Okay.
Activities.
Broadway.
Theater is definitely.
Yeah, me too.
That's might be the best one you should visit.
Or Central Park.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or.
Hmm.
Or hamburgers.
Hamburgers.
Yeah.
Any specific hamburger.
Discussion on Hamburger Places
I thought five napkins actually.
The one you went to.
Yeah.
Was it five napkins?
Three napkins.
Five napkins.
Five.
Wait, was it five napkins?
Yeah.
Mine was five napkin.
No, no, no.
Mine three napkins.
No, no, no.
I'm not saying that.
Five napkins.
Yeah.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not saying that.
Wait, wait, wait.
Five.
Wait, was it five napkins?
Yeah.
The one I went to was like five napkins.
But I got in the the the West side of Broadway's.
Yeah.
The same store.
Yeah.
I think.
The five guys.
Yeah, there's five guys.
Yeah.
I was wondering if I was mixed up with five napkins.
レストランのおすすめ
Yeah.
Yeah.
Five napkins.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What did you do?
Yeah.
What did you had in the five napkins?
Yeah.
Was that the first one on the menu?
I think so.
Oh, I had that one.
Like, yeah, very standard one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
With like cheese and like melting cheese.
Yes, yes, yes.
Like so delicious.
Yeah.
Like onion sauce.
Oh, yeah.
So sweet.
Like garlic.
Yes.
That was very nice.
Yeah, that was good.
Yeah.
Really good.
I recommend that place.
Five napkins.
Five napkins.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
What about your recommend place?
Yeah.
ブロードウェイミュージカルのおすすめ
I would definitely recommend the Broadway musical.
Yeah.
I would definitely recommend that.
Mm-hmm.
I think any Broadway musical would be great.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah.
For food, I would recommend Chick-fil-A.
Yes.
One Chick-fil-A.
Mm-hmm.
Two.
Moe's.
Even though we didn't get to go to the movies.
Yeah.
Okay.
The Mexican, right?
The Mexican restaurant.
Yeah.
Moe's.
Oh, I enjoyed Chipotle.
Chipotle was good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I wanted the nachos.
Like I wanted to try the nachos.
Okay, okay, okay.
Um.
Five Guys.
Five Guys.
Yes.
Yeah.
Five Guys is good too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like except Moe's, I haven't been there before.
But those two, like Five Guys and.
Chick-fil-A.
Yes.
Mexican.
Yes, yes.
I agree.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's good.
True.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We ate at the Wolfgang Steakhouse.
Yes.
And I thought that Wolfgang Steakhouse was really good.
And I thought that Wolfgang Steakhouse.
So I actually, that wasn't my first time having the um, Kansou Jukuseniku.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I actually went to a Peter Luger.
In Japan?
Before.
In Japan.
Yeah.
Like a month or two ago.
Yeah.
Um, very good.
At the Peter Luger?
Peter Luger.
Okay.
In Japan.
Yeah.
Very good.
Yeah.
Very um, soft.
Oh.
Very.
Very soft.
Steakhouse Experience at Wolfgang
I see on every bite.
Wow.
Amazing.
Wow.
And the Wolfgang in New York.
Very similar.
But I, I felt like the Peter Luger in Japan was better.
Wow.
I don't know why.
But it felt better.
Like I don't know why, but it was, I actually can't describe why.
Wow.
But like I, I don't know.
It takes it better.
I need to hold that, to that Peter Luger now.
Yeah, yeah.
It's really good.
It's really good.
Because that was our last night.
That was our last night.
Right?
We went together with um, Tsuji-san.
Yeah.
To the, you know, why don't we go some fancy steakhouse in New York.
Right.
And yeah, I searched on the internet and they say like Wolfgang is the best.
Like the authentic, you know, the classic steakhouse.
Besides some other like Keens or Gallagher's.
But Wolfgang is like that.
You know, the classic one.
King.
Yeah.
So that was Hongten.
Okay.
So yeah, why don't we just do it there.
And I really expected so much.
The quality would be finest.
The store clerks would be the very polite and maybe funny sometimes.
To me, like meat, delicious.
So good.
To me, like that was very like American, very kogeteru.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Juicy inside, which was very nice to me.
Clunchy and juicy.
Like that we had an oyster.
What was that?
A mushroom?
That the seafood ones.
The cocktail was good too.
Yeah, cocktail shrimps and you know, the lobster.
I had a lobster.
That was delicious too.
I really enjoyed those meals.
Meats were good.
But remember the store clerk?
The first guy came to our table.
Was that natural to you?
Like I was a bit surprised.
No, you would not expect that.
Yeah.
A authentic classic.
I don't know how, you know.
First tier Wolfgang it actually is.
Yeah, yeah.
I've never, I didn't know Wolfgang.
So, but you from your research, it said it was like the finest, right?
Yeah, like a one of the finest, you know, finest.
Yeah.
I mean, if you act, if it was actually like one of the finest restaurants, you wouldn't
Unusual Experience at a Restaurant
get those kind of services.
And so what happened was, so the store clerk came, like I was ready to order and I was
like, oh yes, I'll have the cocktail shrimp.
Usually you'd get like a response.
I'm like, okay.
That guy was just standing still.
And I kind of looked over.
Yeah.
Cause he said nothing.
He said nothing.
He was just looking over.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was like, I was wondering if he's okay.
Yeah.
He doesn't look back.
He just freezes.
And I was like, okay, I decided to continue.
And then I went on for the rest of the menu.
He said nothing throughout the whole.
He was like this.
He wasn't even taking a memo.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
He was like this.
Yeah.
Right.
He was really like buff.
Yeah.
He was really like.
And then I finished with the order and then I, and I asked, okay, so can I, um, can I
order the drinks next?
Yeah.
He's like, no.
Right.
So can we order the drinks?
No.
Yeah.
Right.
He was very unnatural to me.
It was.
Yeah.
I think that is unnatural.
Yeah.
Like first line you, you read like some Levi Steig for two.
What?
Are you, are you okay?
Are you with me here?
Hello.
Can you hear me?
Like, yeah, yeah.
That was, um, memorable.
Right.
Yeah.
Right.
But the second guy came to our table.
It was very like friendly.
Very friendly.
He was a nice guy.
He said like, I want to visit Japan.
Where are you guys from in Japan?
I want to visit.
Nice guy.
But yeah, I guess that's, that's, that's the reality.
I don't think he was trying to be disrespectful.
Right.
Right.
Like I think he was just doing his thing.
He wasn't trying to be mean.
Yes.
Yes.
He was that guy.
That's how he is.
Yeah.
That's true.
And I think that's how everybody is.
Like, remember like two or three episodes ago, I talked about how I love.
Yeah.
Japan.
I realized that the services level is different and I more like love Japan.
Yeah.
But I feel like the customer, the people, the employees that I've said that were kind
Communication barriers for non-native English speakers in New York
of like not nice, isn't trying to be mean or anything.
Yeah.
He or she is not trying to like be disrespectful or trying to give you like a bad day.
Nothing like that.
He, that person just isn't, is just uninterested.
Yeah.
Just uninterested in what the other people are thinking.
And that's how that person rolls is how, is it what they are?
Yeah.
Look, if you ever go to America, like New York and receive those services that you think
isn't really good.
Like that person isn't trying to be mean to you.
That person isn't trying to like, trying to give you a bad day because of Japanese or
like don't understand English.
Yeah.
It's just how that person is.
Yeah.
True.
That's how they roll.
That's important.
Right.
Don't be, don't be sad.
Yeah.
Don't be sad.
They just, that's how it is.
True.
Another thing that I noticed, um, I was with Kake-chan and like when Kake-chan doesn't
understand English, the, many of the store clerks doesn't help.
Right.
Like they just, they don't try to be, they don't try to speak fat slowly.
They don't try to use gestures to make him understand.
They just repeat the same thing.
Do you want cheese?
Do you want cheese?
Do you want cheese?
Like that's that, that continues.
Like if you just point at it and then tell him.
Right.
That would, it would, he would probably understand.
And I'm sure that, I mean that would happen, but like they don't adjust to the non-native
speakers is another thing that I, that I realized.
True.
They should find that if they go like, ah, cheese.
That's another thing that they do.
Yeah.
They're so tired of non-English speakers, right?
Oh, I can't.
Cheese, buddy.
And then finally put it, boom.
Anyways, cheese.
Yeah.
Anyways.
That's not, and, and, and even though that feels very like me, that, that attitude is
directed towards not you, but more like, like the situation and fucking their hate their
jobs and that's kind of the attitude that they're have.
So like, right.
Don't take it personally.
If you get that.
True.
True.
Yeah.
All right.
Good.
Yeah.
We've talked too much.
Okay.
Move on to the next episode.
All right.
All right.
